Hard starting when cold - My problem solved
Hi guys, fairly new to the forum. I recently purchased an Integra with a bad head gasket for my son. We did a B20 motor swap that I may go into later in the post if interested. The primary reason for this post is that after we got the car together it was very hard starting. It would crank as long as 15 seconds before finally starting. I found a few posts about this but their fix did not work for me or other posts just ended unresolved. I finally resolved mine and figured I would post this in hopes of helping others. I assume this fix could work for any Honda with a distributor and an ICM.
When cold, our car would crank for up to 15 seconds before finally starting. It would sputter/fire some before finally starting. When the car was hot it would fire right up. If you started the car when cold and then immediately turned it off and tried to restart it it would again crank for up to 15 seconds before starting. It would only start correctly when it was warm. We had fuel and spark and it was really baffling me. I finally spoke with a honda tech and he suggested that I change the coil. He said that a bad coil could cause the ICM to not fire correctly which meant I would have spark but not timed correctly. I swapped the coil with another I had and voila, it started right up. After a month of messing with it, I finally got it to start correctly. Hope this helps someone with the same issue.
