Del Sol Seat Swap?
Hey guys, I have a 1994 del Sol, and of course the seat bolster has been ripped (as usual) and stitched up by the PO. That being said, Is there any way to buy a passenger seat and drop it on the driver's side rails? That would be awesome, since most passenger seats seem to be in rather good condition, plus I like the factory OEM look.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Depends on if the seat belt latch is mounted to the seat, rail, or frame in a Del Sol. Alternatively, you could just take the cloth and bottom foam off a good seat, and transplant it onto your seat. All you'll need is some hog ring pliers and zip ties.

Sorry no. I have tried it myself and the brackets that hold the top to the bottom are different. You MIGHT be able to take it completely apart, down to the foam, and replace it that way, but then you'd have to glue the cloth back on etc. Its just not really worth it.

You can see here the brackets are one sided

As are the backs (different numbers).
You can get good ones for 125-200 on Craigs or ebay, or get fitted leather covers with heaters for about that (or used to be able to)
You CAN exchange the bottom parts tho, just to clarify. But the tops are very different.
You also can't just swap rails, as the seatbelt and adjusting lever is to the outside, and thats also the reason they wont swap.
Good luck tho!

NAR, he means the upper bolster, as that gets brushed with your butt every time you get in the drivers seat. So, it would take a ton of work to do the way we both suggested.
I thought a good idea would be to trade passenger seats with Japan for theirs, and both sides win, but with them crushing every car over 30-35k, (along with outrageous shipping) makes it impossible to do lol.

That whole "crushing cars after 30-35k" thing is bullshit, just FYI. It's a lie propagated by the engine importer industry. I've replaced the cushoning on a few seats, it's not too bad. A day sitting in the garage with hog ring pliers and snips, cut the hog rings off both seats, swap padding over, swap cover over. Sure, there's work involved, but I mean...isn't there always when it comes to working on cars?

true, but its form-fitted, so unless he's done it before, its pretty hard to get it to look like it was never done.
I have done reupholstory on Bugs, but these scooped Recaro backs were just not worth it TO ME.
And with them so cheap ( tho, getting rarer) it was easier to just swap them out.
I will have to do mine sometime, and am kinda thinking about the leather/heated covers, just as a curiosity, but I hadn't looked in ages for them... Going to check now...

Hmm, so it looks like you can't take the seat off the deals and put a new seat on the rails... Bummer. I found a clean gray stripe passenger seat that I wanted to put on drivers side rails.
