New to Hondas. Nice forum.
Good to be here. I've been a part of a few enthusiast forums in the past and I consider myself a pretty well rounded car enthusiast. I'm 28 years old but have a good amount of experience with just about most classes of cars (except SUVs, trucks and supercars).
I just purchased a white 2008 Civic SI with clean title and carfax history. It's certainly not as fast as my 2004 lexus ls430, but they're DEFINITELY not the same class cars either lol. it's more fun to whip around corners since it weighs in at a full 1,000 lbs less. Not to mention the gearbox feels very nice. I remember my older 92' gearbox actually feeling better to shift, but maybe that's my memory playing tricks on me.
This is my very first Honda. I was originally looking for a 92-95 Civic VX, but stumbled upon this car by chance. I've always liked this body style Civic SI but my second favorite is of course the early 90s hatch. Anyway, It's a neat little package and glad it's my first Honda. I was able to negotiate it down to $4500 but it does have high miles 200k but it seemed reasonable as it was within KBB fair condition value for private party. It also has a lot of rock chips on the front from all the highway travel this guy has been doing. it also has a small dent on the hood. surprisingly the windshield is okay and the bumper doesn't look as bad. Maybe an extreme touch up is in order.
I'm going to look for a white hood at a junk yard (more simple and cheaper) or look around on craigslist for a white one. I know it has to be a coupe hood. I'll be utilizing this forum for maintenance as well. Seems like these are easy cars to work on for the most part without any major issues. I did read about a third gear issue which is common on these cars up until early 08'. This one seems to be okay but I know it will need new fluid gearbox fluid. I've also read that paint is a weak point on these cars. The only issues I see on this one are hood and bumper area. Once I do my clay/polish/wax routine I'm sure it'll look like new overall.
First order of business is to search for the right spark plugs, coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, engine oil and vtec fluid. Sorry for the long drawn out post, just excited to have an SI.
(Yes those headlights are bothering me as well, I will definitely be polishing them up and restoring them right after I wash the car) As a car guy, that hood and bumper area is just killing me..... jeez, but I can't complain for the price I got it at.
One question I have is, does that vtec decal on the side look stock? The other ones I see look different, this one is bold and stands out. Not a bad thing but just curious.

(also, do you see that little thing under the bumper? What is it? and is it supposed to be white like that? I'm assuming it's a tow hook that may have been sprayed but I didn't pay close attention to it in person. Never seen that on another civic. Any tips of info much appreciated!

Thanks man. I took it to the dealer to get it checked out. Everything is A ok with clean carfax and all. It's not the fastest car but it's so much fun to drive.
I stopped by maaco and they're charging $380 to get the hood fixed and painted. $200 if I bring an ebay hood. I'm hoping to find a white parts car coupe to replace it with asap.
It looks like other civics have that tow hook in the rear, but the first owner possibly painted this one separately to prevent rusting. lol. Sounds like a car enthusiast. This last owner really didn't do a good job of protecting that front hood though.
All well be good soon hopefully.
This car is a keeper.
