96 GSR, In Memory Of A Friend
What's up guys? My name is Chris, I'm 23 & live up in Colonie NY. In high school, I sought after a GSR. A friend of mine, who was a member on here (St4tus) had this beautiful 96 GSR, that was cinnabar red, with a wings west body kit & was just so tastefully done. Sadly I could never find a GSR I liked & ended up falling for a silver 3G eclipse (stupid I know). Ryan's GSR ended up getting sold in 07 & wrecked by the tool he sold it too. Me later passed away back in 2013. Fast forward to now. I finally have a job with a good pay check & a garage of my own (no more using dads). I was scanning my local craigslist a few weeks ago when a red 96 GSR popped up 8 miles from my house for a low price. I ran over & gave it a look & although it was rough, it brought back memories of my friend & his GSR so I grabbed it for $800. So here's the deal with it. It's a 96 GSR, 140k, interior is in good shape but needs a good cleaning. Runs well, with a stage 3 clutch. Only mods on it are the mild no name drop springs, dc header & short ram intake. The body, well that's seen better days lol. So here's my plan with it:
-Clean the interior up
-Replace the ricer muffler with a vibrant
-Fix the dents & rust
-Shave all the lettering, antenna & emblems off the car
-Delete the spoiler most likely
-Respray the car cinnabar red like Ryan's.
-Probably Enkei Rpf1 wheels
-Powdercoat the valve cover
-Possibly do the jdm front end
So far I've:
-Replaced the ugly gaudy hurst shifter with the correct oem 1
-Replaced the smashed rear bumper with a 98 rear bumper
-Polished the stock headlights
-Replaced the stupid pepboys intake with a powder coated short ram that actually fits lol
-Picked up a new 94-97 bumper cheap off Craigslist (again, undecided on that jdm front end)
-Fixed some of his sketchy work
This car has been neglected & needs a lot of love but I'm hoping come spring time it'll be something to take pride in. Here's some pics for now. I'll update this as I go. Let me know what you guys think!

Making more progress on this "memorial" build. Had some down time over my weekend so I started the bodywork a little earlier than I had expected. Fixed some rust in the right 1/4 panel, pulled the rear garnish to fix some dents & shave the trunk keyhole. I also painted the calipers with some caliper paint I had laying around the shop. I'm changing shifts at my job with new days off so I scored a extra day off this week, planning on using that to do more work. The vibrant muffler came so hopefully I can get that welded on soon. I also replaced the wavy hood with a much straighter hood. Here's some pics of the progress:
