Default New here!! 1997 Honda Civic HX EGR code (problems)

So I bought a 97 honda civic HX automatic, and I'm having PROBLEMS with it. 3 people have checked it and said that it's showing an EGR valve code or something like that, sorry if my english is bad. Advance has the EGR valve for 223$ and ebay 143. But I want to be sure it's the EGR valve because it's expensive. Do you know the ''symptoms'' when it's the EGR valve?

Clean the egr, the egr passageways (all of them), then reset the ecu.
