The green cruise control light on the dash is not lit up when i press the cruise control button where would i start to diagnose the problem?

 

is it working? I would start with the cruise control pedal bushing to check if it is still there or if it disintegrated. Then you should change the clutch pedal bushing switch and brake light switch as chances are those will probably be next to go.

it most likely is the clutch pedal bushing, but I would suggest replacing all three pedal bushings. You can test it out by taping a penny to the area where the bushing is supposed to be. The clutch bushing to start the car is probably the worse one to do, the cruise control switch and brake light switch are easy to do.
