Default transmission fluid

I need to change the transmission fluid in my 94 accord and want to know if there is any other (cheaper) transmission fluid anyone would recommend other than fluid from the dealership. Thanks

Gallon of Valvoline Dexron III is what I have used for service changes on the '95/'97. I add a bit of Trans Tune as well, this seems to keep the accumulator valves happy when cold. Otherwise the trans takes a moment to fully engage first thing in the morning.

Thanks,I will pick up a gallon tomorrow. I am going through the takes a minute to engage now. Every morning the first time I drive the car I have to put it in gear and wait a second or two before it engages. After the first start of the day it goes right into gear the rest of the day with no problem until the next morning. It seems like it takes longer to engage the colder the weather is. It used to do it only in drive but is getting lately where it does it in reverse also on the first start of the day.

Will valvoline dex/merc work? It says it is used in vehicles that require dexron 3? Thanks

I do believe that Valvoline has dropped the 'III' from their latest bottle labels. If it says it is compatible with Dexron I, IID/E and III then it is most likely the same Dexron III stuff.
Just don't use Mercon V, that is slightly different.

It's basically an extra $10 or less a jug to get the stuff Honda specifically designed for your tranny from Honda.

The fluid for AT, not CVT, transmissions is the same. Or in actuality backwards compatible with the older transmissions.
