Front right end Rattle Diagnosis
Hi There,
I own a 2007 Civic EX. Since I bought it with 55k miles I have been hearing a rattle noise from the front right end over bumps.
What I did so far...
- Retighten the 6 steering rack bolts which helped a little with the noise
- Replaced Steering inner rod which had a little play, took almost all of the noise
However while I was bolting everithing up after replacing the rod, I could feel a very little play but I could not understand from where. Right now I still hear a little rattle when going over bumps, only on the passenger wheel.
I am suspecting my right stabilizer link might be getting bad? If not I dont know what other thing could make such noise.

Wheel bearing? End link? Strut bearing? Ball joint? Outer tie rod (you said you replaced the inner...but not outer)?
Hi there,
Yes I am fixing it myself. Wheel bearing I dont think so since it doesnt do any noise while driving in the highway and the very very little play I felt was while moving the wheel horizontally not vertically.
Strut Bearing also I would discard it, since when I was changing the Inner rod I got the Strut out to see if I could lubricate the bearing because everytime I move the steering wheel after letting the car sit for a while I hear a clunk noise, but while investigating I read that this is common even on brand new civics, so I guess I should live with it.
Ball Joint might be, I guess Ill have to get under the car and have some one move the wheel so I can focus only on diagnosing where the noise is coming from.
A friend told me that on his previous car he had to retighten his end links once in a while, but I doubt that happens on Honda vehicles.

I asked a friend this weekend to help me diagnosing this noise, it seems its comming from the rack itself.
I will buy the required 40mm honda wrench so I can adjust my Steering rack, this will definetly help removing this little play/noise. Did this on my 99EX and was day and night difference.
