Default Any way to lock a map on sst chip?

So is there any possible way to lock or password protect a bin file made in crome? Any way to prevent mechanics from reading my map off the chip? Looking forward to any helpful responses.

So there really isn't anyway to protect your map from being viewed by others?

Not really no. Again, who is it you're worried about having physical access to your car in the first place?

Race Warz?

Really, why would you want it?

A few mechanics i know just take map off the chip and then re-sell showing others work as their own. I want to prevent this.

Maybe i can use sst chip to tune the car and then use a non programmable chip that can be burned once to use the car daily? Would that work? Or could i use hex editor to change file size so it doesn't open up with crome until brought to original size? Come on experts help me out here.

Just solder the chip into the ecu. If someone wants to pull it, have fun.

The only people buying 'tuned' chips are total morons. Each car is different, and needs a real tune. All your maps are to someone else is a basemap. Any mechanic that sells a 'tune' like this is a scammer.

This is a pointless endeavor.

A Honda ecu won't run encrypted code. Therefore, it is impossible to encrypt runtime code. Anyone with enough motivation can read it if all you do is pad it. Significantly modify it and ecu won't run it.

End of story.

Thanks. Each car will require a different tune. Maybe i'm just thinking too much..lol. One question though. Does crome free version allow to open bin files made in crome pro? And what about crome gold? Can crome free open bin files made in crome gold?

I never do it, but you can password protect a file with CROME Dealer amd using the Gold base ROM.

Been a loooong time since I used the free version, but I am pretty sure it is as follows - CromeFree can't open Gold maps. CromePro can open but can't save Gold maps or password protect. CromeDealer can do it all including password protecting the Gold BIN.

I don't know if it actually works or not, but it's there last time I checked. It won't be for a few days, but I can post a screenshot of it later this week. (Tuning laptop is at home and I am not... )

Thanks for your response. So how much does crome dealer version cost? Is it still available? Last time i checked i remember crome pro registration being offered for $150 from reputable tuning shops, but how do you get the dealer version if i was to password protect the files?

I paid $449 for mine (had to look up receipts). I originally bought the CromePro for $149 and the Dealer upgrade was $300.

No clue if he still sells them as I already have it and don't care to get another haha. I bought mine directly through him each time. For the Dealer upgrade I just used the upgrade option inside of CROME itself. I tuned CROME for a while for other people, but tuning for dumb idiot kids sure gets old quick.

You make some tweaks for them and they call you two hours later bitching you out for their wheel falling off. The money did not outweigh the hassle, but I have a real job so it was just a part-time hobby of mine anyways.

Haha. You must have enjoyed those days lol. Thanks for the feedback. Well i can't afford to pay $300 right now. I just spent money on getting the hardware equipment, so maybe in the future then, if its available. So whats the deal with hex editor? Can it be of any assistance to me for protecting a bin file from being viewed by others?

Although i did search and found out that some tuners have a way of saving and burning a gold bin to a chip using crome pro instead of buying the dealer version. But nobody's telling me that for sure lol. Guess i'll just wait and think over what i need to do.

locking out roms is a dick move. if you can't handle your competition, be a better tuner. all you're doing by stopping mechanics from seeing your rom is creating enemies, and you don't want enemies in the tuning world.

you're right. I'll just try to do the best i can. But what if they start messing with my tunes and somehow blow their engine and blame it on me. That is something i'm just a little concerned about.

Solder the chip in. Weld the ECU shut.

Haha. I'm not going to worry about it anymore. I'll just tune and see what happens.

why would they blame it on you if it blew up after they took it to someone else? your hands are clean, if anything that gives you a better reputation.

if someone is messing with your tune then save a copy of each tune on your laptop.
add comments into the bin file in comment section so you know if that specific car had issues. you can catalog the bin files by vin tag or date/licence plate or whatever

a lot of tuners would cry about it throwing dirt on crome for one single reason
they just like you have no control over the chip and the tune
a chip can be copied as many times as you want and ran in 10 different cars
its a customer beneficial system with crome rather than dealer

Neptune and hondata are licence based a lot more expensive for chip and RTP. dealers have more control over the burned chip so theres really surprise why its becoming more and more popular than crome.
besides better features in Neptune and hondata compared to crome

but there are tuners who are not affected by this and are still tuning crome ecus.
because not everyone drives a fully built race car.
and for a stock b20vtec with boltons crome is more than enough. except the difference is 150 dollars to burn a chip vs 30 dollars fro customer cost.
yes there are people who would argue and deny if but lets cut the bs and agree that its about money... which I understand its a business not a charity.
