Andie is a kick-*** guy to deal with! I *think* he even gives Honda-Tech discounts, but I am not sure. He checks the board regularly and goes by the name "Cobalt"

Thanks - got my order placed with Andie.
And he talked me into the Axxis Ultimate, which I heard about from a few people this weekend at the track too, so figured I'd give them a try (for the Civic)

Yes he does. What he tries to do is give you the best pad for your individual needs.

Yes, Cobalt is a Hawk dealer as well, but the bottom line is, the Axxis Ultimate is a better compound in all performance categories versus the Hawk HPS, and depending on the vehicle, versus the Hawk HP Plus as well.

Hawk is well aware of my opinions on the HPS and HP Plus product lines, and while I sell them on a limited basis, it is not my first/primary choice for a high-performance street/auto-x compound.

The Hawk race compounds (Black, Blue 9012, HT-10, HT-14, HT-15), however, I find to be excellent track/race ONLY compounds on an application specific basis.

Actually, with regards to your GF, I believe she called to redeem a Cobalt Gift Certificate which was specifically for the Axxis Ultimate (from the H-T.com NE End of Summer BBQ).

My "job" is to provide customers with the very best in technical advice and product recommendations. For high-performance street/auto-x...the top choices will be the Axxis Ultimate and Ferodo DS2500, until a better product comes on the market.

thanks for the info andie.

one question...would you recommend the ultimates over the hp+ on a 4th gen civic hatch?

thanks.

you know what, that probably was the case. i think i told her to ask if she could switch to the hawk pads, though. nevertheless, i'm sure she'll be happy with the ultimates...

Regarding the 4th Gen Civic HB...for street use, my preference is the Axxis Ultimate over the HP+, only because of lower dust, lower noise (virtualy silent), more rotor friendly, better cold performance, etc. For auto-x use, it would depend on what we fitted out back.

For specific discussions, please call me at 877.572.9237.

Best Regards,

Andie

p.s. Btw, how does your g/f like the Axxis Ultimates?

I really have liked the HP+ for performance. I kicked the crap out of the set on my ITR this weekend at the track. They do dust and squeel around town a bit much for me, but I've been too lazy to switch them out. The Axxis sounded like a good choice for my Civic until I can get serious next year for the race season and I needed something TODAY... Plus, the higher-temps Andie talked about regarding fade resistence sounded better then initial stronger grip.

would this mean that the hp+ are better suited for track conditions (circuit not autox) than the axxis ultimates? i'm asking because you mention that the cold performance of axxis is better than the hp+. thanks in advance.

If you are driving on an auto-x course (not track/road course) where you can keep the brake pad temps below 800F, then the Hawk HP Plus will give you stronger initial bite than the Axxis Ultimate, which some people prefer. For track (road course) use, on most tracks in most vehicles, the Hawk HP Plus will not be fade-free enough, while the Axxis Ultimate gives you a greater fade margin, since it is fade free up to 1000F.

I have a preference in most cases for the Axxis Ultimate, because it is more fade free, and has more "streetable" characteristics. However, what it really comes down to is driver preference...you need to try both, and decide what YOU prefer. That being said, I have not received any negative comments on the Axxis Ultimate for street/auto-x/light track use. On the HP Plus, the only negative comments have been: (1) high dust and noise when cold and (2) not enough fade resistance. However, the "feel" of the compounds is different...the Hawk HP Plus bites harder when it is heated up (above 150F), while the Axxis Ultimate has a strong, but smoother initial bite...and thus modulates better. If you pitch/roll/throttle on auto-x, you'll probably prefer the Hawk HP Plus, if you left foot brake and like to slide a car around the cones, then the Axxis Ultimate will probably be the better choice for you.

Now how many vendors give you that kind of info when ordering or inquiring into a street pad? Thanks Andie!
