Any Og's have some exhaust advice?
Looking to change the exhaust on my 00' Si, when I bought the car the manifold was leaking a decent amount and I had an exhaust rasp around 3100rpm. The car had/has a cheap no name exhaust on it, I can see the packing in the muffler already coming apart. Thus my problem/question.
I fixed the manifold leak with a SK2 Alpha series header, so now I am off to fix the rasp and shitty exhaust note. (Note: car is catless with a test pipe.)
Has anyone had the notion of putting the Muffler/resonator off a 8th gen civic on and EK? How did it sound? I have free parts from my Gf's Civic we are just storing at the moment. Would it be worth it to cut it up and take it to an exhaust shop to have it welded on?
Should I go ahead and factor in buying a weld in converter to kill off the rasp completely? I've looked into cat back systems and a good few of them have great reviews, but I just cant stomach dropping $700 on a new WS2. I have found the Yonaka cat-backs for roughly $240 shipped, plus adding a cat back in the equation. Could it be worth it?

i have used the yonaka, and it is surprisingly nice. one of them had the muffler rust out after 3 years, but it was scraped up by me quite a bit. i would avoid the Frankenstein system, nothing to really gain there. if it was a beater, i'd say go for it
Its not a rusted out, jank beater by any means. But it is my daily, thus me not wanting to drop $500ish on a cat back setup. Im not concerned about losing 5-10hp by putting an oem setup on it or putting a converter on.
I just want peace and quiet, and a nice tone at higher rpm's for the once a month lonely rip lol.

I have a semi-built LS/VTEC with the Yonaka cat-back system with a test pipe on my 99 Civic, I have nothing but good things to say about it. The tone is deep, while also being fairly quiet. It sounds almost stock up until around VTEC kicks in, and there is zero raspiness up top. I would estimate that it is around 2x as loud as stock, which is pretty quiet for a catless performance exhaust system. A solid choice for the money.

Putting a cat on it will help the rasp quite a bit. A stock exhaust without a cat is going to be very buzzy.
Idk where you're going to find a stock exhaust...but that's what I'd prefer. I had a DB8 (USDM 2001 GSR) exhaust on my EM1. I think it looked great with the slant cut tip and black muffler...and it was quiet.

I had a PLM "RMF" header on my ITR with a 2.5" HFC and the stock ITR exhaust....which I also thought looked and sounded fantastic.

I also like the idea of using an OEM catback if you're looking for quiet. If oem is too quiet I'd have to suggest looking for a used greddy or ws2. I like my ws2 a lot but if I'm not driving like an old lady it is louder than stock. Most aftermarket exhausts will be, but I like the tone of either of the two I suggested.

But, we currently have the complete OEM catback off my gf's 06' Si. Which is why I was considering using it, I loved the way her car sounded stock. I know I can't emulate that sound completely but I figured it would still be pretty quiet. I found 1 other thread here from 2011 of a guy using just the OEM 8th Gen muffler, but all his pictures/videos are gone.
I want to use the resonator and muffler, and add a converter if need be. I have a lot of other stuff I want to do on this car that are all pretty small in the grand scheme of things but can't seem to get past this damn rasp.

Whoops. Noticed and fixed a typo. I said that a stock exhaust with a cat will be buzzy....I meant that a stock exhaust WITHOUT a cat is going to be buzzy

This coming from someone who still has their original vehicles from 1997 and 2000 and went through all the cute and monkey-made combinations. Get the good stuff, didn't look back
I don't understand that..a daily driven purpose is exactly why you spend the better money in a quality exhaust. You want nice tone, you want no rasp, that's why you get the good stuff. Pay the money, and quit playing games.

Which is what im trying to do, i bought the car with the cheap exhaust already on it. Been fixing little things with it up until now, its time to get the rasp taken care of.
My main goal was to try the Si exhaust so i came here to try and find opinions. Was hoping more people have tried it. And if it doesnt give me the sound i want, ill only be out 60-80 dollars.

It may sound good. The K series sounds nothing like the B series though. The B series always ends up sounding like a wet fart through any exhaust that's even slightly loud. IMO, it sounds good through a world sport (with a cat), and through a stock exhaust, or an RSR EXMAG....maybe a greddy SP.
A 05-06 RSX-S muffler might look/sound better, but they're harder to find than a 8G Si muffler. They're everywhere.
I haven't heard the 8G si exhaust on a B series in person. It might end up sounding decent. Try it out.

ok. Fair enough. But windows were completely open during that.
I'll try this one. The point hasn't changed

Back to video yes that would be an ideal setup. If you really want to know what I like you can look up videos of the rs-r exmags. That is what I would be looking to replicate since they don't sell those anymore.
Bad idea, aerodynamics would be off but since it wasn't a track event it wouldn't matter.

You know what? Forget it.. This OG is getting a bit bored, and no longer wants to help.. OP, do what you want. some people have to just knock on others no matter what ideas are presented.
Bad idea? its just a video, not a testing environment.. Just relax, its not like anyone had a dB meter with it.

Thrush Turbo muffler. Like, $30. Add another $30 to have a shop weld it in for you. That's what I've had for years now, love it. If it's still too raspy, you can get a proper cat welded in afterwards. If it's still to loud after that, have a resonator welded in. One step at a time, and you'll eventually get it where you want it.

Exhaust posts are almost always opinion polls of what sounds good and what does not.
All other opinion threads get closed in Tech section, this should not be an exception.
There is some decent tech about the effects of the catalytic converter and such so all that remains is the opinion discussions.
Thread closed before the tech is lost to opinion debates.
