Default New to me 1998 CR-V Owner. Just needs a little love.

Hello. I just bought a 98 CRV LX 2WD 123K and it is in pretty good shape. Interior is perfect but dirty, timing belt done at 102k, not much history and the body needs love in a few spots. Cam seal is leaking and just noticed a missing valve cover bolt missing. I have ordered the following from RockAuto to get things up to snuff for me to trust this being a good commuter car for our family: air filter, oil filter, plugs, wires, dist. cap and rotor, valve cover gasket, cabin filter, complete front brake kit, and I will change the fluids. Anything else I need to look for and I guess I should use an OEM cam seal? It runs and drives great but since I don't have any records of the service I am sure all of this is due by now.

There is some slight Front end damage but I think I can fix it myself.

What'd ya pay? I'm looking to pick of a 99 EX on Monday for between 2k and 2500.

Look for worn tie rods also. P common on these. Also make sure the valves are properly adjusted. These motors are finicky on valve lash and should be specd in every 30K.

I paid $3k. Everything I found on craigslist was crap and this one popped up on cars.com. It was his daughters car that just graduated college. Valves sound perfect so I guess they are ok. If anyone local can teach me how to adjust the valves I would be grateful. I am going to get a carpet cleaner rental and go to town on the upholstery, get the maintenance up to date and then see about fixing some of that body damage. Paint is shiny and once I compound, polish and give it some wax it will look great! I will probably replace the suspension assemblies from some cheap one from rockauto. I bought some of those FCS strut assemblies for a previous car and it worked out great.

Just got done painting the bumpers. Sure makes a big difference. Next is the wheels to match the spare I painted.
