91-96 H23A with 96-01 H22A Head.
Hi guys, I just want to know if I can put a H22A from 96-01 in a H23A 91-96 Block. I saw photos and the cylinder looks more close each other on the "non open deck" engine.
Which one is better, the "Non Open Deck" or the "Open Deck" engine and why?
Thanks for the help!!!

You will find some different opinions, but "closed deck" blocks are better. They are stronger and stiffer than open decks, because of reduced cylinder movement and vibration, and can hold more hp. Also you sleeve them with just liners, dry sleeve and hold 800+ hp.
The only advantage of open deck is that they have better cooling. Also open deck h series have bigger crank journals (not a big deal).

It's bolt on. H22 style heads are pretty much all the same. Just got to hook up vtec as mentioned. Personally I would go for the complete h23a motor. Have to argue against closed decks being better. Closed deck adds arguable strength, but open deck offers arguably better cooling. Both can support plenty power. Of course the open deck blocks feature larger cranks, and can fit more options. Honda switched to open deck mid-production. It's unlikely they would make a move towards an inferior design.
