Icon5 2012 Accord engine hesitation

My 2012 Honda Accord V6 Auto with just 5,200 miles has a potentially dangerous hesitation when accelerating from a slow rolling speed. Typically happens when trying to turn left across a line of traffic most times it's fine but 1 out of 10 or 1 out of 20 it hesitates and does not want to accelerate and it's scary to say the least. Very rarely it happens turning right but more typically I'm rolling slowly forward waiting for a gap in the oncoming traffic, it may be more prevalent on slightly uphill left turns. Not sure if it's an engine hesitation or it can't find the right gear. Of course the dealer can't duplicate the situation and claims there's nothing wrong and that nobody else has brought it to their attention. Interested if anyone on the forum has experience this issue. The car is still under warrantee.

Are there any stoed codes? Does the car have a manual/auto/CVT trans.....is the fluid full?

Take the service writter for a ride and take as many left turns as you can and see if it will act up with her/him in the car.

No codes, service guy could not reproduce, I did not go with him, his availability was very limited. Standard auto box, they just serviced the car so hopefully the transmission is full.

The fact that it only happens when turning, points to a possible relation between the steeering hydraulics and the IAC valve. The IAC typically receives a signal that it should open when the hydraulics demand power.
If this isn't working, it might cause hesitation as the engine can't deliver enough power, the RPM's decrease.

The 2012 Accord doesn't have an IAC valve. It has a drive-by-wire throttle control system.

In addition, the 2011-12 Accords has a brake override system. That system is designed to cut engine power if it senses that the accelerator pedal might be stuck (the pedal is open and then the brake pedal is pushed). If you rest your left foot on the brake pedal while driving, the system will think you’re trying to slow down the vehicle and will cut engine power.

Hello,

I know this is an old thread. I have a 2012 Honda Accord that runs perfectly except for one thing. If I an turning left (never happens to the right) Occasionally when turning to the left and accelerating from low rpm. the engine will hesitate very
bad. The first time it happened I thought the engine dies, but it didn't. The engine light doesn't come on. There are no codes or stored codes. I think it is strange that two Accords the same year model have the exact same issue. Was this problem ever solved?

because it's happening in a turn I would take a look at the ignition switch.

If it was an ignition switch you would think it would also happen when turning right. It's never had even the slightest glitch turning right. It will have to get worse before I will change out the ignition switch. It has actually been better
over the past few months. I have done some ore searching and found this is a very common problem. Nobody that has ever posted the problem has ever come back and reported a resolution. Maybe it's never been resolved.😁

I believe it was the interaction between the brake pedal and the accelerator causing the issue. There's a very slight delay when you take your foot of the brake and hit the accelerator. If you're too quick the engine will not pick up because the brake pedal overrides the signal from the accelerator pedal. I drive a race car and often do left foot braking so my reactions were too fast for the electronics. When I go a little slower the problem goes away. So the message is don't try to brake and accelerate at the same time. My son has the Accord now and he has not complained about the hesitation during the 12 months he has owned it.

Well Duh! Now that you say it out loud, you may have something there. I don't normally have my for on the brake pedal and the accelerator at the same time, but there are certain times I just might be doing that without noticing. I've got to take a trip out of town
today and it will be an excellent time to test that idea. I was taught from a young age to try and never use my left foot on the brake. Now that I'm getting older and don't feel my reaction time is what it once was, I have a tendency to put my left foot on the brake
when going through certain intersections. There is one particular that has a stop sign just over the hill from a stop light. To make a left turn onto the street you have to cross the lane for oncoming traffic from the stop light. When you leave the stop sign, you better be quick on the gas pedal or you will get hit by the cars leaving the stop light. It's a 20 mph zone, but that don't happen. Anyway, thank you for that idea. I will report back here what I discover.
Best Regards,
Ruben
