I have a 97 hatch with a b18c/s80 lsd tranny. It's been running mint until a few days ago. Out of no where it would just pop out of fourth gear. No grinding or whining. It shifts into and out of fourth. The problem arises when it's in 4th and as soon as I step on the throttle it pops out I'm guessing "half way" cause I'll get a light grinding noise.because of this I've been avoiding 4th until I go on vacation and was going to send it to the mechanic next week. Well tonight I was driving like ms daisy and I skipped 4th and went 3rd to 5th. No problem. Then I went to take it into neutral to stop at a light and it wouldn't come out of 5th. I pulled over and shut the car off and pulled with all my might and the tranny is stuck in 5th gear. The clutch pedal has pressure and when it's engaged it seems normal other than not being able to shift out of 5th but when I let the clutch out I get a weird half whining half grinding sound. Got it towed back home and got it on stands. Pb blasted every bolt I'll need to remove in the morning. I've heard and seen cars do weird things but this one has me stumped. I'll be starting surgery in the morning to see what's going on but I thought maybe someone has experienced this before. Any thought on what I have to look forward too?
