Icon2 Throttle Body Opinions; What Brand Are You Using?

I'm looking for a current consensus on what throttle bodys are good, and have lasted without developing any sticking.

After taking mine completely apart, the journal bearings in the TPS side are what get worn if you lose the grease. I get unintentional cruise control all the time the last couple days. I think I finally burned it up racing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Gingerman Raceway...

So, what throttle bodys are you guys using? Happy with your purchase?

I just sold me RPM Services and went to a BDL.

Frankly, they all suck.

Lately I have been running the Skunk2 Alpha - it will eventually start sticking like the rest of them. Give it a good cleaning and it will free up. It will end up happening again and again. Like everyone else said - they all suck, may as well save some money if you don't need one.

Must be just you.. The alpha seemed to be the only one that didn't stick. I've got 3 of them, 2 currently used since their introduction

Yup, everything is always just me. Just my luck in life.

My problem is it won't close all the way at times and you have to blip the throttle to get it to close. If I let it go and it gets really bad it will stick while opening as well. Give it a good cleaning, and it's good to go. Yes, everything is clearanced properly and I ONLY run air filters. I am absolutely 100% against no filter setups, just not my style and not worth the minimal HP gain.

With all that being said, there is a reason the S2 Alpha TB is still on my car and I would still buy another.

I was hoping someone would chime in about this 1. I bought a professional products one about 8 years ago and it was horrible, stuck without even being mounted in the car. Could not be adjusted to work normal. Tried sanding edge of the butterfly, no help.

Glad you've had luck. Im not a huge fan of skunk2, I have a few omni parts that have been good though. May just go with that, 90 shipped isnt bad. Since I have to buy a new 4bar map sensor since my 95 del sol b16 TB has firewall mount map

Check phearable.net. they have some decently priced TB's in different sizes.

I've been running a 70mm skunk2 alpha since they were released with no sticking issues.

I have the Skunk2 90mm and it will stick at 2-3k RPM. Originally stuck at 5k and I sent it in and got it back. Customer support says since I am daily driving and it is more track oriented I am out of luck.

Local guy also running the 90mm and it sticks too. Small annoyance but hardly the "OEM throttle characteristics" the advertise.

That's the BILLET series. Completely different. Even Skunk2 admitted that those stick. You want something that large. Get a 90mm that is fit for a Mustang and be done with it..

just curious since I haven't had the experience with this issue but are these sticking issues due to dirt, grime, oil buildup or maybe issue with the quality of te fit and finish of the parts...maybe a mix of both?

anyways reading the post seems maybe some of these throttle bodies would be prime candidate's for some type of teflon based coat(fireamrs use these with great sucess) that would assist in keeping the parts clean, anodized is nice but doesn't provide a lubricating effect. nothing is perfect of course but just a thought had when reading through

Its not the grime or dirt I've found. It's the differences in materials and heat expansion rates of the butterfly itself. Aluminum ones with Billet aluminum housings seem to be the ones with the sticking issues. On others, its the clearance of the plate against the housing. But little have anything to do with the environmental factors.

The spring just doesn't seem strong enough to close it. Here is what one guy did with a 2nd return spring.

I've used the skunk 2 70mm pro billet tb, which i still have, but on my motor I currently have the skunk2 alpha 70mm.... same ish, the billet pro one is just very shiny lol. But that is on my b18c, it will be coming out for a k24a2 next year which then i will be using a S90 74mm tb. In theory all tbs are relatively similar, you just need to get the proper tb diameter for your setup.

Have been running the Alpha 70mm for 2 years, about to be retired and a new Pro-series 90mm is going in.

I really appreciate the number of replies.

A couple days ago, I ordered an Omni Power from Street Rays for $85. That's due in tomorrow. I also got the DIY-Tuning 4 bar map sensor for $30 (hoping quality is good). The map sensor came in yesterday, and looks like it's good quality. Will see if it reacts quickly, and is accurate compared to my motorola.

If the Omni is no good, I will be going for the Alpha, for sure.

I can post back results in a couple days.

Will be using a k-tuned 90mm on my new motor. It will occasionally see the street but will mostly be a track only car.

Update:

Don't waste your time with ebay map sensors. Mine arrived dead. Shows 1 static pressure. I ordered a DIY Tuning 'brand' one. DTC, and UAS are others that appear the same. Garbage.

Ordered an Omni Power 4 bar map from Phearable now.

Omni Power throttlebody is very very nice. No sticks, smooth.

Maybe it's the change in map style, maybe the increase in throttle size to 70mm, but my afrs are all way lean. I will say, yes, changed map setting to new sensor in Neptune. So, re-tuning my motor now lol. Running an OEM map sensor I had laying around, max psi 5 for now.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a stock MAP will support 11.6 of boost will it not?Its a 0.8 BAR sensor. 1 bar is 14.5. 14.5 x .8= 11.6

Give or take some yea. Upper limits can be lower I'm told, on a per sensor basis

I was always told that if you run one of the firewall mounted ones, prelude or EF or 92-93
civic that the map sensor would read 11 psi, not the TB mounted ones.
