Default Tanabe exhaust on b20

What's up I have been thinking of running this exhaust set up but have heard that it's not enough flow

So I have an ef hatch that I swapping in a b20, I want to buy the Tanabe Medallion exhaust for my car because it's a quality system and is nice and quiet but I have been told it's too small, it's a 2.25 in exhaust , I do plan to go b20vtec later down the road with bolt ons , the thing is 2.25 is the biggest size bolt on exhaust I can buy for the ef hatch, and I don't want to go custom cuz the fact that I can't remove it when I want to.

Any input would be appreciated and are any of you running this exhaust with a b series

thermal r&d makes a 3 inch.

also based on my experience with the tanabe exhaust on my crx it appears to have been designed for a b16a due to length.

Yea I don't mind the length differences because I am going to run an adjustable test pipe anyways, but i don't know if it is going to be too restrictive, I don't want to go 3 in because I'm not going to boost it , just want a fun weekend warrior/ daily driver so I can hit up a few track days

Yea I've been wanting this exhaust because of the fit and finish, I've heard nothing but good comments on this system, I like the fact that's it's quiet. I'm over the whole loud exhaust thing I just want something stealthy

nothing wrong with 3" on non boosted cars. there are tons of dyno threads showing that it works great all motor and produces plenty of power. the collector on your header is the biggest restriction in the system usually.

You won't have any issue making fine power with that exhaust. You won't be anywhere near the physical limits of a 2.25" exhaust with that motor.

I had the Thermal Exhaust on my B16A prior to boosting and didn't really care for it any more than the 2.25" exhaust I had before it.

Its quiet thats why I like this exhaust...I don't think the 2.25 will hurt your performance it was designed for a B16 anyways so you should be ok...

Why can't you remove it when you want to? I put flanges on my CRX exhausts and they all remove in 2 pieces. I went just recently upgraded to a 3 inch custom on one of mine, had a 2.5 custom. I read that NA B18CR always perform better with 3 inch, and with a turbo install it requires it. So I just went ahead with the 3 inch.

It took me a long time to get my 3 inch to fit right though. The I had to notch the big *** resonator I had because it hit the shifter. The hump that goes over the rear LCA was a nightmare because of the aftermarket ASR sway bar. I welded it a few times to get it right, and mine is stainless so I kept running out of gas on my welder.

But after that was all done, it is too loud for my taste. I'll have to figure something out. I wish I was more experienced with how the different exhaust parts work together to make the desired sound.

Oh and to note, my 2.5 exhaust does sound good. It had a bigger muffler, but the bigger muffler will spark against the ground as my rear shocks are blown on that car. I went with a smaller muffler on the 3 inch for more clearance. To move my 2.5 exhaust from my 89 B18C to my 88 B16, I had to extend the headers on the B16, and weld up a hanger to the frame that the 88 didn't have.

Sounds awesome, I don't plan on boosting it, just a b20vtec with bolt ons and maybe cams over time, now I know it will be fine. 👍👍👍

I have the Tanabe exhaust on my gsr and it feels really nice and quiet. Haven't done any dynos yet just looking for a better intake manifold.
