Default HVAC control

Everything but my blow motor doesn't work. it won't switch vents or anything just comes straight out of the dash. I've check everything, vacuum lines, fuses, the only thing I haven't done yet is pull the head unit... 1990 Honda prelude 2.0 Si

by blower motor, you mean changing from vent/defrost/feet ? you said "just comes straight ouf of dash" these are same symptoms as 4th gen have where you would need to reball the solder joints in the "climate control" unit. Do a search for prelude climate control solder, should get you in the right direction. either way, you will have to pull it to troubleshoot.

3rd gen might be a cable? I don't know for sure but you'll know whats up when you rip it apart.

No like the actual blower moor itself is the only thing that works. I can't change a/c and I can't change where the air is directed. Will do that search though. Thanks

I did a search on the solder problem just on the forum itself, and it seems like that is a very common problem with just preludes in general. I did some more digging last night just in the in cabin fuse panel and noticed that the 10amp fuse for the rear defrost was missing and I plugged one it. I also went to the main fuse block and inspected the main fuses and the max fuses in the underhood fuse block. It looked like one of the main fuses was loose so I snugged them all down. Now everything works just my A/C blows out warm.

There was a guy on eBay awhile ago who rebuilt those control units for like $20. It's just some soldering but I wish I'd taken him up on it lol. No idea if he still does it. I have to bang on the dash for lights and a/c switches to work sometimes.

Just in case someone in the future finds this via search. To the OP, u can always just recharge ur a/c but pure warm air could mean a leak. R134a and r13 don't "burn off" they are a closed, high PSI system. So I'd have it checked before u waste $50 on a recharge kit

That's what I was thinking. I was going to first see I need to retro fit the system for r134-a. I have access to a refrigerant recovery unit and I could do a leak test. I that passed them I'll just put dye in the oil and run it for a week. But before I do that I remember seeing a fuse for my compressor engagement( I could have jut been seeing things) the guy that owned it before me didn't take care of it. Fuses popped, or missing, front turn signals left unplugged. I bought it as for a gas saver I could be proud of for lack of better terms and the more I drive it the more I want to bring it back to its former glory. Lol

The prelude has that effect on people. Its a cult car..

As for your engagement, u should be able to feel it. Our engines are small 4 bangers, if the compressor is engaging u will feel the loss in the gas pedal. I'm sure there is a fuse for it anyhow, u seem to know what you're doing with dye and leak test.

I'm not familiar with 3rd gens, as I currently have a '96 4th gen. But a whole lot of parts are interchangeable from what I do know. U may be able to keep the compressor if u do a retrofit

If it my compressors bad after the leak check passes and I don't see any dye at the connections I'll just roll with it as until I do the head swap and then I'll just do everything at once already have a list made up and all just add that to it lol
