been doing a crap ton of work ont he prelude recently and figured id never had one of these so i figured why not. basic background: 2001 honda prelude type sh located in new york has a h22a type sir swap in it. full 2.5 inch titanium exhaust, dc headers. currently its off the road as im doing a intake and clutch swap. i had an skunk2 intake but due to new york state inspection im swapping it back to stock.
as it sits now. just got in new gaskets for the intake manifold, new axle seals, honda mtf, and am just waiting on the clutch to arrive to start taking the transmission out. i also have a spare type s head that i bought locally for dirt cheap. im not swapping it but mostly bought it for stock intake manifold.
painted the spare valve cover i have, found the cams to be kinda interesting. they had a sort of blue coloring to them
nothing i know but i wanted it, and it was cheap.
first time painting a valve cover. i think it came out pretty good
these are the cams currently in my car. idk much about cams but i thought it was interesting that they had a blue sheen to them
Stock cams are made very well as in regards to life and strength, Its a Honda thing right! . . . I'm not quite sure but I think It might be some kind of ionization or dipped with something like inconel or something else of that nature promoting less friction blah blah stuff like that. After 140K my stock cams still had the blueing to. sturdy sons of guns arent they.
GL! on your clutch. If you got a throwout bearing with your clutch I saved it for a rainy day, and ordered OEM one instead. Dont kno if you went OEM on the clutch or not, that part doesnt really matter theres alot of good reputable clutch makers eg. ACT ect. but to keep cost down they usually ship it with a lower quality throwout and have heard stories of bad throwout bearings within weeks of new clutch install. Just food for thought.
Nice, I'm just breaking mine in now just under 300 miles after rebuild with conventional oil. Then I'm gonna test out pennzoils new synpower. I have heard some good things from bitog.Com I usually run Castrol tho.
Inspections sucks I'm glad I stayed in Tn lol. Stage 4 sounds a little heavy for NY driving. I hadone in my hatch and there wasn't no in between. I wish ya luck with your build. It makes me happy seeing people take such good care of the ludes.
yeah well spent all day working on it. managed to get both axles and atts off. gowd damn the type sh is a pain in the ***. ive done a couple clutch jobs in civics before but the lude takes the cake for being a pain. ill take some pics later but got the stock intake manifold back in as well. really wanted to have my lude back on the road by now but work is really laying it on so idk when it will be back on the road. and i went with stage 4 simply because i wanted a six puck clutch that wasnt shitty. and comp clutches lightest six puck clutch is stage 4
so today i finally got the damn transmission off. ive been plagued by stripped bolts, pain in the *** axles, welded ball joints, broken seals, and my personal favorite an atts unit that wont come off because i dropped a socket behind it when working on the intake manifold. after all this **** i finally get the tranny off. and find this. it has a crack in it. the clutch is shot but the previous owner must have had a clutch explode or something. the entire inside of the bell housing is peppered with chips. only crack is the pictured one.
well i took it to a local machine shop and the guy there welded it for me. so now im throwing on the new clutch and my friend is swinging by to help me throw the tranny back on. should be fun. ill throw some pictures up when its done
so the car is pretty much entirely put back together. longest clutch job ever i know. but i decided to replace the ball joints. aaaaand i bought 2 kits off summit racing. these kits included 2 ball joints each. but apparently the type sh has two different front lower ball joints. so 160$ later and the new ball joints from honda are being pressed into my car tomorrow. hopefully it passes inspection no problem as im leaving the lower hudson valley to move to potsdam for college in a few days
alright much fuckery later. apparently on the type sh the two lower ball joints are different sizes YEY!!! so i figured oh ill go to honda and tell them which ones i need. 80$ latter and turns out they gave me the wrong ones :/ whatever just return them right? nope honda doesnt except returns on opened products. so turns out after much arguing with there parts guy get the new ball joints ordered. 140$ for two ball joints! but im leaving for college friday as in 4 days so im like **** it give me them. they are getting in tomorrow. hopefully they just slap right in can put the car back together and pass inspection. all in time to drive it 6 hours to college.
so she made it to potsdam!!! and legally passed inspection the day before i left!!! still have a vacume leak somewhere and 2nd gear syncro is fucked but shes back on the road and i finally got around to cleaning her!
