Default 99 Civic EX- Frankenstein motor won't stay running

Hi all, bought a 99 Civic EX in shambles recently. It had a blown GSR engine in it when I bought it, the only part I retained from it was the wiring harness. It has a d16z6 complete rotating assembly, d16y8 head casting/valves, and a y7 cam and rocker assembly. The head has the z6 cam gear on it, and is using the standard z6/y7/y8 belt. It is a Frankenstein collection of parts, but they are all known good. It is running a virgin p06 with a jumper harness. The problems I am having with it are as follows:

1- Will start and idle at around 900 rpm's, but if given throttle it will die.
2- I am getting a constant code 41 (o2 heater), but have swapped in 3 different known good used ones
3- Codes 10 and 19 are present (IAT and AT lockup (p06 is AT)), I will address the IAT later, but it is not enough to cause the problems I am having now.

I have verified mechanical timing, verified fuel pressure (gauge on filter line), replaced the FPR with a known good, just to be sure, checked spark, and there is currently no cat on it, so it cannot possibly be clogged. It does run a LITTLE better with the distributor advanced all the way. I am stuck with this one, any ideas?

Is a Z6 cam gear different than a Y7? If so, maybe a Y7 cam gear would help.

What does a compression test look like?

compression was ballpark 180 across the board. there is supposedly a half tooth difference between the two, and the consensus was to use the gear that matched the block if using the y7/8 cam

But this^ does not account for the fact that your cam doesn't match the cam gear.

Right, I went off what I found from researching the head swap. I do have the gear and can swap it out, just not sure that is the issue.

^It's hard to know given the Frankenstein motor.

However, bad mechanical timing is the white elephant in the room, so if you have a Y7 cam gear give it a try and see what happens.

Will do tomorrow, we shall see. I have the crank timing dead on, the genius who owned the block before me decided to do away with the lower timing cover, so I had to use the crank sprocket/oil pump.

Also, did you try starting fluid or check whether the injectors spray fuel while cranking the engine?

Update: did the cam gear swap today, no luck, symptoms persist. Ron- I know it is getting fuel, but I will pull the rail and verify each injector is spraying.

Forgot to ask- does anyone have an ecu harness pinout for this car? I am going to wire the o2 directly to it, seeing as it helps control fuel mapping and for some reason is not being read by the ecu.

Code 41 - Dust off the multimeter. Test fuse 15 and whether the primary O2 sensor connector gets battery voltage from fuse 15. Also Ohm test the heater element.

whelp, i built the franken head correctly, same issues persist with the new head. motor is now a complete z6, cam timed @ inner cover pointers, crank timed @ oil pump and pointer. did a distributor guts swap, so all 3 tabs line up on the z6 head, tried a known good y8 distributor as well. im about ready to burn this car.

Swap out crankshaft fluctuation sensor with known good one.

problem ended up being a bad ecu conversion harness. have it running obd-2 now, with ckf bypass trick.

This thread gives me inspiration for a Z6 head... it just does.

if you swap your pistons for different d series ones, no problem.
