Default J1 transmission Differential Sliding...

Hi there, I just opened my J1 cable SIR transmission because I found that the differential were sliding in the transmission case. I was able to move the diff from one axle to the other. I was wondering if I was missing a spacer on my bearring because it's atm grinding on the diff.... as you can see on the pic, the diff shouldnt be that far on the shaft. Being that far on the case makes the diff slide in the case. And also, the gear used for the VSS is grinding in the casing (cause of the bearring not placed well. Please help me out! I'm stuck.

Here are some photos of my b16 tranny. Looks like I have a slight gap between the bearing and the reverse gear. The broken diff (stock) had no shims or spacers. Your diff has what looks like roughly the same amount of **** sticking out as mine does.

What in the world are you talking about? The reverse gear doesn't even remotely touch the differential. You don't shim the bearings on the differential, you shim the case.

OP - You need to put your differential back in and verify the clearance before you proceed. Chances are someone was inside that transmission before you got it and left the shim out. Part #3 in the link below:

And yes I didn't shim anything because mine didn't have a (#3) shim there either. Mine was a s4c

Yeah, not all of them need it, but most do. But since the OP's sounds like it is flopping around in there he needs to measure it to see what's going on for sure.

Ok guys it seems like the guy before me swapped a hydro transmission internals into a ys1 casing because I have a 26mm shaft wich were in 1992+ trannys. I also have all the same gear ratios as hydro tranny Y21 and others and I probably have an hydro differential also (wich makes the bearing looks way too close to the diff) and the guy.

I found that to swap from cone bearings to ball bearings we need spacers between the bearings and the differentialand synchrotech makes a kit for it here is the kit:

What make me guess that I have a Ys1 casing is the year of it wich is 92-93 because of this photo! Mine is like the one at the left.

Here is the transmission list:

I could still have YS1 differential but the casing has been grinded to enter the differential and the gear ratios are exactly the same as y21 trany and other. I doubt the guy would keep the final drive/differential of ys1 and swap all the gears on the shaft while they both have the same fd.

Correct me if I'm wrong somewhere!
