Default Info on installing a valve cover gasket kit!

I have a 1991 Honda Accord SE that I purchased new and the car now has 66K miles on it!

I was at the Honda dealership to do an oil change and the service adviser said that I had an oil leak. I look at the valve cover and there were sign of oil around it.

I watch a couple of Youtube videos on how to do the gasket, grommets and the o ring under the cam assembly.

The Honda Accord runs like "new" and I was wonder if I can install the cam assembly back without doing a "valve adjustment" or to line up the valves? Not sure what I suppose to do with the valves before I put back the cam assembly and tighten up the small bolts! I rather do nothing!

I not sure why I would have to messy around with the valves at all if I am careful and do not disturb the assembly and line it all back like I took it off?

What things do I need to do after installing the replacement o rings under cam?

I need the torque settings for the 10mm and 12mm bolts too!

Thank in advance for any assistance on this project!

Yes, you absolutely can replace the lower spark plug tube orings without doing a valve adjustment. Just make sure to torque it properly.

There are howto's in the faq's at the top of this sub forum for how to replace the spark plug tube seals but just leave out the valve adjustment.

It is, however, good maintenance to do a valve adjustment at the same time however.

Thanks holmenmanny for your reply.
I will look at the FAQ that you suggest for additional details and to find the cam assembly bolt torque specs.

I got the torque settings for the cam assembly:

16 lb. ft. for 12mm bolt
9 lb. ft. for 10mm bolt

But what is the torque setting for the valve cover crown nuts?

!!!!!!!
make sure you follow instructions CAREFULLY - especially when removing/installing the rocker arm assembly!

Ericthecarguy has a great video on this:

Best of luck!

Also - learn from my mistake, which cost me lots of time and unneeded stress: When you remove the rocker arm assembly, DO NOT REMOVE THE BOLTS - especially from the side which faces the front of the car - these hold the pieces together on the shaft and if they fall out, don't let the assembly fall apart or you'll be in for an afternoon of re-assembly. Just leave the bolts in the assembly, if you can.
