1998 DX D16y7 to D15B swap
Hey everyone! I bought a Japanese D15B long block as a "direct replacement". Took out the D16y7 and put in the 15. I used all the parts from the 16. The 15 runs and timing is set. But when it reaches operating temp, it revs up and down. Also, under load, it's very sluggish. Help! I thought this would be easy. Lol!
The code was p0113. I'll have to clean those and get back here tomorrow after work. It's the original ECU. 1998 D16y7. Also, the intake is not like every one I see online. The air tube mounts on top and not on the side. I dunno if that matters.
Post pics of your engine including intake manifold, block stamp, head year stamp, etc. Also there are multiple variants of the D15B but generally none of them are "direct" replacements especially if it is the VTEC version.

Both engines and ECU are non-V-TEC. I replaced the engine because the threads on a spark plug port were stripped and I lost compression. Plus the one I took out had 234,000 miles on it.
I unplugged this sensor(MAP?) on the throttle body area by the firewall, and it idles steady but a little high. At low RPM under load it sputters. As it gets going it runs well. Also, the temp gauge goes up at a a stop light. Not overheating, just warm.
P0133 is the only CEL code being thrown? Reset the ECU. Does the code return? Properly bleed your coolant. Put the front end on jack stands, remove your radiator cap, and start the car. Let it run for 2 to 3 radiator fan on/off cycles, keeping the radiator topped off while doing it. Doing this will also be diagnostically important for your overheating at stoplights - If your temp gauge reaches the midpoint, and your fan doesn't turn on, then we need to diagnose that as well. Start off by making sure you actually have it plugged in.
And no, a D15B is not a "direct replacement" for a D16Y7. Not even remotely.

I believe this is the best option as a 'replacement' for the infamous Y7.

So, I cleaned the IACV. Fixed. I'm gonna order a new one on eBay just to be safe. I bled the cooling system too and the heat problem seems to be over. Thanks for all your help, everyone!
