Looking to spray paint my hood, but not sure where to start. I bought 2 cans of spray paint to match the color of my car. And clear coat I watched youtube video but everyone has their own way, i need to know what kind of primer and sand paper to use, a step by step process would help, thanks!
I wouldn't hurt to hit it all the way down, that way you don't have to spray sealer on it. But if you don't care, use a heavy grit like 80 to knock off as much clear as possible. You should still prime it after completely sanding it down, and wipe it off so you wont get any dirt between coats. If you are doing it outside just hose around the car with water so wind wont pick dirt up. Then when you spray make sure you follow directions on how far off the hood you have to be (being outside, you might have to get closer). Then spray in a side to side motion at a reasonable speed. FOR EXAMPLE: If starting from the driver side and painting lengthwise, start from the top corner fender side towards the middle in a straight line, then comeback overlapping the already sprayed area covering it 50%. Same thing on the other half of the hood, start from fender towards the middle. Unless you are tall enough and think you can hit a straight line starting from the top (from fender to fender) and work your way down. Same thing with clear coat.

Appreciate your help! , what kind of primer should i use, or does it matter?
wow, just plastidip it. you don't want to sand down to bare metal, 80 grit will work for removing just make sure to not damage the metal. You still should lay down sealer if is bare metal, or you might have lifting issues or mapping. You don't start from the outside and work inwards it is always edge to edge or you are going to have overspray on product already starting to dry. you need to sand primer 400dry or 380 wet, then sand 600 wet with guide coat to make sure the sand scratches are removed, seal, base, clear.
Ehh what do I know, I only took an auto body and repair tech class, guess I didn't pay attention that's why I changed career. So did you ever finish it?
