Bought new quarters from fixmyrust but got a bare metal panel.
From what I've seen, mostly everyone received primed panels before but not sure if they changed something.

Anyways, began welding the passengers side quarter and found some fitment issues. Was kinda tough to maneuver and fit perfectly into place.

Began welding it into place after matching the rear tail light portion and the side molding portion. Think I may have some warping of the panel (seen in pics).
ANY HELP PLEASE!

 

Sorry I don't think I can help but thank you for the website for the patch panels, I wasn't aware this was an option. I hope you get it figured out as I have a 92 hatch that needs this done as well.

 

I know most of our honda's experience the same quarter panel rust and rocker panel rust.
I found OEM replacements from Majestic Honda but they were $175 each, so fixmyrust was a pretty reputable place from what i've heard.

 

I must be pretty blind. I am not seeing a fitment issue of the panel itself just a misalignment of the panel as it was welded into place.

The first pic looked as if you didn't cut out the rusted part of the panel but the rest look like it was cut out and the new panel is in place.

My eye says the panel is accurate but should be twisted a touch so the front trim groove matches up a bit better and the back might have to drop a few mm after the twist to be perfectly in line. But that could be deceiving in the pictures...

I'm heavily interested as this is something I know nothing about and need to get done except mine goes all the way down to the rocker panel crease. I would love to be able to do it myself but I fear I don't have the knowledge nor do I want to attempt learning on my car as a first time job. I think it would come out very sloppy.

Just received my panel last night (opposite side though). I'm agreeing with "TomCat39" because I don't see anything wrong with the panel itself. I was expecting a primered/etched piece as well but mine was bare metal too. You may have warped it as you've stated but that would depend on if you had let it cool between welds vs rapidly welding everything. Again, that's not a fitment issue with the panel.

FWIW your work looks pretty decent to me. Only thing slightly off is the door trim alignment.

 

Yea I tried fixing the side molding alignment.

I purchased, but didn't use, the same panel you're using. Fixmyrust used to offer two options for the EH2 rear wheel arch. The one you bought and a smaller piece. I didn't like quality of the stamping for the quarter panel replacement so we ended up using it to fabricate our wheel arches. There's no problem in body work that hammers can't fix if you've the time. If you don't, fibre glass fill and body fill over the top and lots of sanding.

Sounds good, I will try to grind down the welds and get some body filler on top.
By the way, love your build and will be using it as guidance lol.

 

Keep welding until you don't have holes before you put filler on. Just keep tacking alternating from one end of the panel to the other to keep from warping the metal too much. Then grind your welds down, you haven't ground them down far enough in the picture. Once that's done you'll want to use some fiberglass (fiberglass is waterproof, light weight bodyfill/Bondo isn't. Then epoxy any other bare metal spots, then use bodyfill, sand, then putty, then high build primer, then paint. You'll also want seam sealer where the patch panel meets the tailight pocket (you can see the gap in one pic)

 

Thanks for the feedback, I've been trying to continue welding but ran out of gas for now. I am trying to find a supplier for fiberglass fill and I will probably need to build a booth before spraying prime and sealing.
Shouldn't I be seam sealing the entire weld from the inside? Just in case

 

You don't absolutely have to, but it doesn't hurt. It's also a really good idea to sandblast your welds once they're ground down.

 

If theres a place I could rent a sandblaster, I would do that.

 

You can buy a small cheap Harbor Freight sandblaster for around $20, I think they're actually a little under $20. Either use recycled glass or 0 sand for blasting media.

 

walmart and autozone both sell bondoglass.
