I have a pretty naive question since I'm new to this. I have recently purchased a 1991 Integra LS. Everything is stock including its B18A1 motor. I've noticed that the engine revs pretty high even at low speed. In 5th gear, at 60 mph, it's running at 3,000 rpm. Is this normal? I'm used to a lower revving engine in my 2002 Accord so this is new to me. If it's 3,000rpm at 60mph, I can't imagine doing >80mph.
nope, 3k@65mph is a stock ls transmission. try having a gsr transmission. 3k is only 53mph
I'm guessing "nope" was not a response to my question whether it was normal for the engine to rev that high that early.
Anyway, I have another question which I hope someone will kindly educate me on: What would be the reason(s)/benefit(s) for an engine to rev high at a relatively low speed?
All those older Honda engines rev' high, it is very normal, they were designed that way. They get great gas mileage for their normal rev's too. An advantage to this is that you can take advantage of the power band quickly, as that's were 4 cylinder engines make most power
