motor not running right. Need help
Ok here's what happened. I changed the rack and pinion, upper and lower ball joints, and the tire rods. Put it all back together, hooked up the battery and it started missing and eventually quit running. Tried cranking it and it kept backfiring. Let it sit for a hour and it cranked up but still ran like scrap. Changed plugs, wires, coil, cap, rotor, and fuel filter. Still same thing. Im Lost......... Ow one other thing, when I cranked it up after I installed the rack and pinion it had a exhaust leak. The #2 o2 sensor is behind it, do u think that could cause it to run rich or lean.
You did way too many things at once and even after the initial runs like crap to be able to pinpoint anything. Now you have to start at square one with the no start diagnostics. Spark, fuel, compression, timing etc etc.
I don't have a way of checking the codes. I triple checked the wires, they r right. What would happen if I unplugged the #2 o2 sensor???? Would it just read off #1 or what????
You haven't specified your car details (country, year, make, model, trim, mods) as is typically required so we have to assume you are talking about a 92-00 civic or del sol.
That being the case you do have a way to pull cel codes with the service connector on the passenger kick panel wall.
And even though all this wasn't done exactly at the same time, it was done in a couple of batches to the point that so much HAS been done at this point that you can't pinpoint any one thing as being your issue.
THUS you have to now start at square one like I said. My point still stands.

Tomcat already said it once, you don't need a code reader.

start by making sure it's still plugged in (simple, i know.. but i've forgotten). trace the wiring back to the harness. maybe something got bumped while doing the other work.
if the ecu can't read the o2 signal properly, you car will run like crap.

Put new o2 sensor on and reset code. Still running bad, now saying misfire cylinder 2. Checked compression and it is 180. I'm guessing fuel injector. Any ideas?
By running like crap what do u mean? Stumbling, bouncing idle, poor acceleration? Is there any smoke, how does it respond to throttle input, have u checked the timing?
It takes it a while to accelerate "pick up rpms". I am gonna check the timing tonight. And if I get the rpms to 5 or 6 thousand it will blow a little smoke. U have to look real hard to see the smoke though.
A little smoke at high RPM is typical for an older car, as long as its not smoking a lot. Timing is the first place to check, Civics are really picky about timing. Also check that all your vacuum lines hooked up right.
