Default $9 CAI '89 Hatch Civic

Today I was bored at work, and since I work at a distribution shop for Plumbing and Electrical I decided to enhance my '89 Civic Hatch STD 1.5L. This is my daily driver that I use for 80 miles a day. So i am not looking at completely "modding" it out. Just some fun stuff. Here's what I did:

Qty Product
1) 3"x2" rubber coupling (install at intake) My cost: $2.60
Retail Cost:$4.50 ea

1) 3" x 3" rubber coupling (install on discharge of air box, use a piece
of the original tubing to help size down on the exit pipe from the air
box to the 3" rubber coupling)
My cost: $ 2.75 ea
Retail cost: $4.80 ea

2ft) 3" ABS pipe (get 2 ft for extra in case of a screw up)
My cost: FREE
Retail cost: $1.70 per ft

2ft) 3" ADS pipe slotted (cut out a bigger hole to fit the 3" ADS pipe into
the suction side of the air box, then remove dirt collection box from
stock system and cut out a bigger hole for pipe to go down to bumper
area)
My cost: FREE
Retail cost: $0.90 per ft

1) ADS 3" 90 degree elbow (attach to the ADS pipe, and face towards
bumper, use plumbers metal tape to hold the elbow in place with a
self tapping screw, then use a 3 5/8" hole saw to cut into bumper)
My cost: $3.30
Retail cost: $7.80

All done!

My total cost: $8.65

Does anybody know of any GOOD dry air filters that are aftermarket that would fit in the stock air box?

I know you all will have crappy comments, but it was fun to do this. And you cant see any of it when looking at the car from the outside. The only noticeable difference so far is the responsiveness, acceleration, and it doesn't bog anymore when I shift between gears at low RPM's. Some MPG increases would be nice, but not expecting anything.

Also, my corner lights are in project mode, that's why they are missing.

Here's some pics:

im fine with FUNCTIONAL ghetto hacks. i do think you are getting more air into the DPFI throttle, for whatever gains thats worth.

i used dryer ducting and duck tape myself. http://crx.honda-perf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4730

but you really didnt need to cut a hole in your front bumper. oh well.

So you cut a hole in your front bumper but didn't connect the ghetto cold-air tubing to it?

This forum never ceases to amaze me.

Gotcha! Thanks.

Once I do that, I bet I can get an extra 15 hp from the new intake I installed.

Also, gonna install some racing strips on the hood and roof, been told that's gonna increase the hp by another 23 hp.

I can't wait! Gonna go from 70hp to 108hp which these cheap upgrades!
AWESOME!

i hope you are joking, and I think you are, but you never know.

Velocity stack would have pretty much zero effect at the end of an intake like yours.
I guess that's means you are going to be down a few hp so instead of 178hp, you will be looking at 520hp when it's all said and done.
That's just how the math works out. Sorry. Maybe add a NOS sticker to fix the imbalance?

Damn it!!
I had a feeling those Mechanics/Parts salesmen at Autozone didn't know what they were talking about. I wonder if their even ASE certified? Sheesh, now I gotta go back to do the return.

That is some FUNKY math.

I was thinking of doing a Monster drink emblem, instead of the NOS. I heard that the Monster drink emblems help put more fuel in the injectors giving you an extra 56.25 hp increase.

Maybe I will do the Monster and NOS emblems. Way more hp combined. But I think I might have to beef up my axle. I don't want to bend it from all the added torque.

Typical cracked lenses. So I removed them to install penny LED lights in the stock light holders, with the lenses removed. I didnt want to do this but everytime I purchase the stock ones, the place I order them from, refunds my monies cause they cant get them any longer.
