Hello there! I'm somewhat new to cars and very new to this forum, so I apologize if I posted this in the wrong place.

Anyhow, I have an 88 civic DX sedan with a stock d15b2 engine. I wanted to swap it with a B20 and also convert it to manual trans since my friend is selling his.

So my question is, what exactly do I have to check to make sure that the motor is good and how would I do that?

Bear with me, like I said, I'm pretty new to cars so take it easy on the trolls. aha But any recommendations on what to do is much appreciated! :D

 

You can only check so much just by looking at the motor outside the car.
the best you can probably do is a leak down test and check the spark plugs for uniform burn.
