Del Sol - Hard Race Bushings - Removing The Old
I have a 93 del slo. I picked up another set of oem front lca's and such so I could strip them & install new hard race bushings. I have a 12 ton press but have been unable to press the old bushings out. Does anyone have the size socket they are using to push out the old bushings & can these only be pushed out from one side?
I know I could torch them & cut them & hammer them out but I have a 12 ton press I have used to replace the bushings on my g35. I would prefer to use the press as it should be much faster in the end. I have a bushing press kit & any size socket imaginable I just could not get the bushing sleeve to budge.
I haven't opened my hard race kit yet since I haven't removed the old bushings yet but can anyone tell me if they require grease as well? I thought i read somewhere they do not unlike the energy suspension kits.

My 20 ton couldn't budge my bushings, so good luck using a 12ton.
burning is pretty fast. Torch the center out, grab a sawzall or something and cut a couple slits in the metal ring. The press should knock them out pretty easily after that.
No grease needed, although it might make pressing them in a little easier. Make sure to clock them!!

Punch through the rubber by using a cup or socket thats too small to push out the bushing.
Then cut a slit in the metal sleeve. Old bushings come out easily after that.
Press the new bushings in.
**Before cutting them...try pushing them out with the rubber already punched out. That way you can use the metal sleeves to push the new ones in.
Pressing bushings out takes too GD long and is a little sketchy/dangerous if the car has seen any road salt.
Your G35 has aluminum arms. Thats why the bushings pressed out with a 12 ton press.

I was going to try to pull them out with sockets and threaded rod etc, but after talking to my machinist he talked me into letting him remove them.. Then charged out the wazoo for it after he too found out pressing them out is a PITA!
So, if I had it over to do again, I'd do it like I did the rear sways. burn them out.
Tho, has anyone tried drilling a few holes around the center shaft first and then pressing them out? (or drill holes, and let it burn thru them?)

Alright thanks guys. Ill just torch the centers out and try to push them out. If they wont budge still ill sawzall the sleeve first. Thanks!
PS: What do you mean by clock the bushing?

Clocking the bushings means tightening them down with the car at ride height. You should never tighten rubber bushings with the car up on jack stands and the suspension at droop.
Oh gotcha. Yea i bought some drive up ramps where the back section comes off so I can throw them on and then tighten to spec once its on the ramps. Thanks!

had to put down over $200 in deposits but worked like a charm.
now i have to do it again after breaking the dreaded rear shock bolt. 8(
