2001 Integra Type-R Alternator, OEM or aftermarket?
Hello Everyone, I have a 01 Type-R and just this past weekend had this issue happen to me and would like to know if everyone on this forum can help me diagnosed if it is my alternator going out? I never had this happen before on the car.
So, I went to turn on the car and it wouldn't start. I then jump started the car and it started right up, drove it about two blocks from my house and notice that my stereo went out, then about a few second my ABS light came on and then the SRS light came on and then my whole cluster speed and RPM all went dead. I pull the car into a parking lot and shut it off and then went to restart it again and it wouldn't start. I then jump started the car again and it started right up but shortly afterwards, the same thing happens, my stereo went dead, ABS and SRS light came out, and cluster dead. I then slowly drove the car home and decided to swap out my battery in the type-r with my RSX battery. The car started right up and I thought that it might just be my battery, so then I drove the car out of town to a car event; about an hour or so the same thing occurs again, lights came on and cluster dead, pulled the car over and shut it off and couldn't start it up again. I ended up buying a brand new battery and was able to get the car home.
My question to everyone is, does this sound like an alternator issue and that my alternator is going out? If it is my alternator does anyone know if OEM is the way to go or if I can go with aftermarket alternator from Autozone? I look at OEMacuraparts.com and it looks like a brand new one part#(31100-p73-a01) is $966 and looks like a remanufacture one with part# (06311-p73-505rm) is $292. Please let me know if these are the correct part numbers for the type-r. If it is, these pricing are quite high. The aftermarket one from Autozone is about $196.
Thank you everyone for your help.

you cant go wrong with denso, it's about $120 + $35 core charge + $10 shipping from rockauto. you might be able to find one locally for less. i just replaced the brush assembly instead it's pretty easy once you get the alt out (which is not quite as easy).

Do our cars have a like a "mega fuse"? It would be a fuse on the positive battery cable probably, I think its main function its to blow in case like while jump starting another vehicle and say the batt. cables were hooked up incorrectly. So if this fuse went bad, your alternator wouldn't be able to charge the battery b/c of the open circuit. I don't recall seeing a mega fuse on our R's, but might be worth looking into. Good luck buddy!
