Default Power heated mirror switch

Heya guys! I've got a 99 Civic LX sedan AT, and I saw something peculiar in an 04 Pilot the other day at work:

A power heated mirror switch. A perfectly normal thing for anyone else, but I see that as an opportunity. It looks like it would fit directly into my Civic. I found out that Honda used that part on many different models. I figured if I knew what models they came with, I could retrofit heated mirrors into my sedan by following deschlong's EG write-up. So, I went straight to my local dealership and ordered the part for $95ish. P/N: 35190-SV2-E01

I got the part today! It was good and bad, and I'll say why in a second. The good was that the switch physically fit in where the original was.

The bad... I took a look at the back. The connectors are not the same.

Super... But I am determined! I looked up wiring diagrams for many cars that had the option, but half the threads that contained the info had dead links. I did find these though, as well as having the 96-00 Civic service manual. (Oh, what I wouldn't do without that thing.) This is from the Prelude but it can apply to the Integra and many other models.

It would appear that the mirror defogger circuit is an entirely separate entity from the power mirror circuit. This simplifies things a bit for me, as I can now just focus on trying to figure out which wire to solder where. I then found this helpful diagram on Google (for an EF):

Then I started taking notes for the single row 10P switch connector, and how it works. I tried finding pinouts for both connector types, and comparing them.

This next diagram is from a normal, run-of-the-mill Civic (which is what I have).

I'm now at the point where I'm starting to think I overthought it. Perhaps I could just make the entire system work the way the Prelude does. In that case, if I wanted to do it with an OEM look, I'd have to build a sub-harness, which I could certainly do. I'm going to the junkyard tomorrow to get some pigtails and properly colored wire.

But until then, my brain hurts a bit from running round in circles, tryna figure out how that 'Lude switch works. Have a good evening ladies and gents.

Some of the acura legends and older models had this style switch with heated mirror.

Get the pinouts for the Pilot, not the Prelude. From there just repin the plug.

Ah! I forgot to clarify, but when I went to order the part for the Pilot, they said it wasn't available, so they had to order it from a different car. they ordered it based on a 97-99 3.0CL. I'm gunna look up the Pilot anyway to see whether or not the diagram is similar, and then look at a few others for the same thing.

I'm thinking I'll just get a whole sub-harness out of a Prelude or Integra today (because I'd like proper wire color and connectors) from the pin at the fusebox all the way to the ground. But only if the diagrams are the same.

I'll also try the Pilot pinouts if the other two things don't work. Last resort is trial and error, and I hate doing that. Thanks tony

I'll search those diagrams too, thanks!

You need to look for the pinouts for the car it came from. It'll make life easy. I believe ron might be able to help with that.

Yeaa, I'm hoping he finds it. I went up to the dealer a bit ago and got pinouts and a diagram for the 04 pilot, and it at least says how the circuit works, so it's a bit clearer than the Prelude diagram in that respect.

I'm googlin around and I searched just the part number, and the hondapartscheap site doesn't specify, but the acurapartswarehouse site says it's the 97-99 3.0CL base and premium. In fact, all the Honda specific sites don't specify what car they fit, while the Acura sites all say 3.0CL.

But I was having trouble last night trying to find diagrams for the switch on that car specifically. The Acura dealer is a bit further than I'd like to drive, but I'd go if they actually had what I needed. I'll make a phone call there way and get back to this thread.

EDIT: Also just found this thread that says the Prelude shares the same part number. So I could be right in using the Prelude diagram, but I'll check with Acura anyway.

35190-S04-C01ZB is the correct part number for a '96 - '00 Civic, it's classy gray rather than black. These came stock in '99 - '00 CDM Civic SiRs. I don't think these are in Honda's US parts distribution network but you can try.

Oooh, that is definitely useful info. But I did still order this part for about $90, so I'd like to see if I can still use it. Good thing to know though, for people who don't want to make the same mistake.

I just got a complete extra set of the full power fold in mirrors, heated with covers, plus the proper matching switch today from a 1999 Acura EL, very similar to the US EX, but the EL does have it's extra features.

The civic switch isn't all that hard to find if you need

Oh damn, nice find. I didn't know the Civic/EL chassis could have both a folding and heated function. But my knowledge still has a lot to be desired. Is the folding button a separate housing from the defogger button?

I knoww... I made an impulse buy, which I try hard not to do. But it happens.
I just got back from the junkyard and got a bunch of OEM BLU/RED wire, and a sub-harness for the power mirrors off a Prelude. I'll compare it to the diagram to make sure I got everything, and try to wire it up when I have time.
