Typical causes for CEL

I'm looking into trading my present daily driver for a 95 civic coupe it has a check engine light and the car hasn't been read? What's typical causes

for a CEL?

It's typical that a code read will tell you what is wrong.

read the FAQ, then take a paperclip with you and read the code when you test drive it.

I don't have a tool/machine to read the car that's why I was asking what typically causes a cel on a 95 civic

You don't need a tool. Just a paperclip. Go to the FAQs sticky and learn how to pull codes free at home.
