Manual Transmission for Civic '06
Hello,
My Civic '06 has been making a slight grinding noise in the lower gears for the past couple months. Lately, these noises have gotten worse. It seems that the grinding is between gears within the transmission caused from wear and tear (definitely not bearings). The car has 215k miles, 60k of those with the car being used for pizza delivery
.
Here's my question: where can I find a new, OEM transmission for this car. Everywhere I look, I can only find trannys with 50k or 60k on them. I would much rather buy a brand new one. Also, what should I expect to pay?
Thank you.
PS. I'm only gonna be delivering pizzas for another month and a half. Then the Civic will be used for driving in winter alone. I plan on keeping this car to 300k miles at least.

Why would you purchase a brand new transmission? Why not just have your current one rebuilt?
Have you bothered with any type of maintenance (changing the transmission fluid, filter, etc) ?
A new transmission would be at least $2k (basing off of Majestic's pricing here ) but it has a MSRP of $2.5k.
The only place you're going to buy a new OEM one is, well, from the Original Equipment Manufacturer which is Honda.

You're far better off just rebuilding your existing one or buying a used one. You're still going to have labor to swap in the replacement. On a pizza delivery income I don't quite see this (replacing the trans) making sense financially.
*edit*
In your other thread it's recommended to look at the throwout bearing. Why are you trying to swap out a whole transmission vs troubleshooting the existing?

Thanks for the help.
Looks like I can purchase the countershaft and gears for about 1k estimated . I'm doing the work myself so no labor.
And money isn't really an issue. This Civic has gotten me through two crazy winters. If I have the money and the space, I want to keep it.

nope... Si tranny is LSD... I believe minor differences in gear ratios. I would need to double check that but that is a minor difference!
