I have no idea what is wrong with my civic- BY FAR THE WEIRDEST CAR PROBLEM EVER
HI, new user here, and i need Help please. I joined this site because nobody, including my mechanic could figure it out. I have a 2006 civic dx that was having trouble before with idling and dieing after coming back to idle quickly after revving it. It previously idled normally but died as described above, however now there is some of the weirdest fu*kin sh*t happening. The gas pedal is doing the opposite of what it should be!. Haha I'm not on drugs, the car idles at 3500-4000 rpms as soon as you start it and stays there as if it was a normal idle speed. Then if you touch the gas, it brings it back down!!! I don't mean it dies but rather it actually controls how LOW the idle goes not how high. For example, the car normally idled at 700 rpm and if you pushed the gas down half way it would go to 4k rpm and all the way it would obviously hit redline at 6500 like it should, the way every car does. NOW, HOWEVER-- the car idles at 3500 rpms and if you put the gas down half way like before it goes down to 2000 rpm and then stays there. If you floor it it goes back to the previously normal rpm of 700. Yes I have absolutely no idea what the **** is happening. I am not making this up... it sounds so weird but the gas pedal literally does the exact opposite of what it should. For example, if you press the gas in your car to a certain point it will raise 1k rpm. If i push my gas to the same point it will LOWER 1k rpm. It's a drive by wire TB but even if it's an electrical system gremlin it doesn't make sense. The TB seems normal too, closed when I'm off the gas etc. WHAT THE **** IS HAPPENING?! It is not showing any codes at all
Thanks in advance, Chris.
Thanks in advance, Chris.
This just started happening? It worked fine before and then one day you started the car and this happened? Do you have rats or mice where you live?
I haven't had to work on mine yet or any other throttle by wire vehicle, but the first thing I would look at is the pedal HMI. Whatever is under there that is sending the throttle position to the throttle body or ecu. Just my $0.02.
P.S. Scour the internet for a factory repair manual. They have intricate, in-depth troubleshooting guides in them. And PLEASE if you find the answer, post back here. That's how everyone learns.

Are you sure your check engine light works? Does it turn on for a second when you turn the key to the ON position?
Thanks all fo the replies, yes the CEL works, but I haven't found a solution as of now. Since it is not my DD, it is still sitting in the driveway, untouched, with a dead battery. Thanks again

Here's a thought. Did anyone do any work around the throttle body? Could there be a sensor or a connection that was reversed.. We all know the Civics have throttle-by-wire, or E-throttles, so if the accelerator peddle is acting like a throttle retarder, could it be a bad connection? Or is this all software based?
