Yellow fluid in ECM
I pulled off the connectors to my ECM and found one with a coating of some type of fluid, yellow in color with an oily feel to it. There was a very small amount and the entire connector was not covered. So I got a mirror out to inspect the ECM and found the same gunk on the pins and inside the housing for this one connector. The other connectors were clean. This is on a '99 with 240k. I'm thinking there must be some component in the ECM that is leaking out this stuff and it's probably time to go to the junk yard for a replacement? Any help is appreciated.
If the Car still runs fine then nothing has leaked. The only thing to leak are capacitors and when those blow, its generally very obvious and accompanied by a trail of destruction across the PCB. More likely than not it is some very old dielectric compound left in the connector socket.
The car is running fine except there is a new hesitation which only lasts about 2 minutes after starting up cold or hot. I have yet to diagnose. There are no codes and I removed the throttle body to clean, replaced gasket. There are 4 sockets each with its own compartment but only one has the compound if that is what it is. I would think the factory would have used compund on each connector.
