Default 95 Civic - Planning JDM D15B VTEC-E swap - Can't find P08 for automatic tranny

I'm new at this. I found a JDM D15B ZTEC-E motor that looks good. My Civic is a 95 D15B7 non VTEC. I will need a P08 ECU for an automatic tranny but can't find one. Can I use a different one? Does anybody know where I can get one? I'm nervous about buying an $800 engine If I'm not sure I can make it work. I know about wiring the solenoid and pressure sensor. Any help on the ECU issue or advice on other issues I might have will be appreciated. Thanx, Dave

Do some research. Vtec-e is an economy engine. P08 is only for jdm obd1 vtec d15b.

If you want to use an automatic transmission, you have to match the engine, ECU, and transmission all together. You can't mix and match.

The engine is VTEC-E as displayed on the valve cover and D15B as stamped on the block of the JDM engine for sale on EBAY. The website hondata.com which tells you how to decipher ECU numbers says 92-95 D15 JDM takes a P08 ECU with a 5 as the last number for auto tranny. But it doesn't say anything about it being for a VTEC. As you see, I already did some research, but the research is only confusing the matter. Thanks for your help.

Do a search for what the p08 runs, I believe you need the p07 ecu but in automatic form. I don't know where you'll be able to find one.

It's likely an obd2 engine.

The engine was on ebay. It sold while I was trying to resolve the ECU issue. I can't see throwing a grand at an engine that will be a paper weight. But I'm sure I will have the same challenge again. These JDM engines have really low mileage. I'll try to post a new ebay listing below: Picture Information 92-93-94-95-HONDA-CIVIC-1-5L-SOHC-VTEC-E-OBD1-ENGINE-ONLY-JDM-D15B-VTEC-E Mouse over image to zoom 92-93-94-95-HONDA-CIVIC-1-5L-SOHC-VTEC-E-OBD1-ENGINE-ONLY-JDM-D15B-VTEC-E 92-93-94-95-HONDA-CIVIC-1-5L-SOHC-VTEC-E-OBD1-ENGINE-ONLY-JDM-D15B-VTEC-E 92-93-94-95-HONDA-CIVIC-1-5L-SOHC-VTEC-E-OBD1-ENGINE-ONLY-JDM-D15B-VTEC-E 92-93-94-95-HONDA-CIVIC-1-5L-SOHC-VTEC-E-OBD1-ENGINE-ONLY-JDM-D15B-VTEC-E 92-93-94-95-HONDA-CIVIC-1-5L-SOHC-VTEC-E-OBD1-ENGINE-ONLY-JDM-D15B-VTEC-E 92-93-94-95-HONDA-CIVIC-1-5L-SOHC-VTEC-E-OBD1-ENGINE-ONLY-JDM-D15B-VTEC-E 92-93-94-95-HONDA-CIVIC-1-5L-SOHC-VTEC-E-OBD1-ENGINE-ONLY-JDM-D15B-VTEC-E Have one to sell? I think the ( 291471738496 ) number is the item number you can look it up with. As you see, the listing says it's VTEC-E with OBD-1. My car is a non VTEC D15B7 with an auto tranny. If anybody knows where I can get an ECU that will work with these engines, I would be much appreciative.

The correct ECU for a VTEC-E auto (aka an ETi) is the P84.

"These JDM engines have really low mileage" is a bold faced lie. When an engine importer tells you that, just ignore them. It's a lie based on a misreading of a specific Japanese law. Even better, most of the imported motors aren't even imported from Japan - there are many other countries they are available in.

I also already said this, but I guess I have to say it again. The motor alone will do you no good. If you are going to change to a different motor, and want to stay autotragic, you have to get the matching ECU and automatic transmission.

This is correct. If you want auto (why???) then you need the matching auto transmission to go with it, ESPECIALLY if the engine is a 92-95 VTEC-E D15B (essentially the equivalent of a D15Z1 on US/Canadian shores). Yes this is confusing, and you're right to ask questions in this forum about it. And your answer is: IGNORE the sale if it doesn't include the transmission and ECU if you want auto. Good luck finding it though, hardly anyone will be importing autotragic crap. Unless you're disabled, you should be driving an MT, in my opinion.

If you wanted manual, then an engine swap with a JDM version would be more compatible.

Pfft, even if you are disabled, you can still roll a 5 speed. Mastershift makes a paddle shifter adapter!

Addendum: It's expensive, and if you actually put one of those kits on a Civic and aren't disabled, I will personally laugh at you.
