2013 Civic driver's side mirror light lens crack = $650 fix?
In my 2013 Civic Hybrid the turn signals and hazards suddenly stopped working. The turn signal light lens is cracked from a rock on the highway or something, so there's a small hole in it.
I spent the better part of my workday at the Honda dealership where I bought it, and the service desk guy tells me the crack in the turn signal lens on the driver's side mirror allowed moisture to cause a short that affected the whole circuit, including the hazards and front/rear turn signals. He says they have to replace the entire side mirror assembly because all the wiring inside was affected, $595 + tax. After recovering from this shock and telling the guy that this is completely insane, I ask if they can just disconnect that light from the system. He says oh yeah, when they disconnect it everything else works fine (front & rear blinkers, hazards). So that's where I am now. It would be nice to get that blinker working, but not for +/-650. Seems like a design flaw, and I was angry enough to find the dealership GM, who told me he will look for an aftermarket or used mirror assembly that they would have to paint it to match my car. Does this all sound kind of crazy to anyone else? I'd like to try to get the part and install is myself, can anyone point me in right direction, reference-wise? Thanks!

1) Please review your post that apparently is either copy/pasted from elsewhere or poorly written with tags.
2) Why is an electrical short a design flaw? Tell you what, take your laptop or desktop computer and while it's turned on hold it under your faucet. Let me know how the water damage goes for it.
3) If you look online - Majestic Honda for example. You can check the pricing for the housings. You don't note the trim of the Civic, but here is the URL for a 2013 Civix Hybrid (with leather)
The part number for the right side is: 76208-TT1-306
The part number for the left side is: 76258-TT1-306
These are sold at $300 for MSRP (what the dealer is charging you) and you get an online discount (really it's closer to dealer cost) for $208 + shipping/handling (probably another $20-30). Assuming you can reuse the color cap (~$50) you'd be looking at ~$250 total for just the parts.
I'm not sure on the labor involved on replacing it, but the dealership is probably quoting you ~2 hours or so + MSRP for the part. Two hours at my dealership is ~$120 + the $300 for the part gets you around ~$400. If they're replacing the caps, or other electrical parts the $600 estimate doesn't seem too far off.
I'm sure you can find a used one on eBay or Car-Part.com and save some extra money.

MuffinMan, to respond to your post:
1. Yes, I noticed those tags were added after I uploaded my message, not sure why those popped in there for the words drivers, paint, circuit and paint, respectively.
2. I'm not saying a short is a design flaw, but I was surprised to learn that all 6 turn signals/hazards and the motor for adjusting the mirror would be on a circuit that could be shorted by a pin sized hole in the lens. You're right, I don't use my laptop in the rain, but then again it's not designed to be an all weather item like a car.
3. Thanks for the ordering info. It still seems off to me that a tiny crack in an exterior rated light lens would require a complete replacement of an otherwise undamaged assembly. Are newer model headlamp assemblies running this much?

I've cleaned the mess.

You can, if you note, order individual pieces for the mirror housing as well. I just quoted you the whole mirror package.
The Turn Signal/Hazard Flasher Circuit is part of the multiplex integrated control unit (MICU). The MICU is built into the under-dash fuse/relay box. Yes, a short can affect the whole circuit controlled by the MICU.
What TheMuffinMan posted is pretty much on point.
