Came across this today. Interesting how solid of a review the car got back then and then thinking about what is considered sporty now.

In fairness, you need to compare it to a modern day Si.

If you're comparing them number-to-number, the modern-day Si really hasn't improved in much of anything without decreasing value heavily in other areas. The '89 Si is far greater a value by today's standards, in my opinion.

 

 

To argue your point, today's standard is a lot more than just the performance marks. Today's Si makes more than twice the power, staying close the same MPG estimates, but also boasts tons more safety features and tech. Yes it adds weight, but also has to adhere to the strict federal guidelines concerning the makeup of the vehicle. As far as a total value, comfort, quality, safety, economy, styling, I would argue that today's Si, for the money, has more value than the vehicle of old.
