Default 15x8 tire size or other use suggestions?

Hello everyone, just joined here and I have a few questions. I know this has been discussed COUNTLESS times but no one seems to agree so I can't decide. I have a completely stock 1998 Civic. I plan on going pretty low, but nothing too crazy, for relatively inexpensive. I have been looking into xxr 531's 15x8, lowering springs, and I am completely stuck on what tires to get. I've seen this done wrong and I don't want to mess up. I am also willing to get my fenders rolled. Thanks

The reason people cannot agree, is because there are several ways to approach wheel/tire sizing, and there really is no "one correct way" since everyone has their own style/opinion. So, if you have a style in mind... it'd be easier to give a response regarding sizing if you have something visual to reference.

As for not wanting to "mess up", it's going to entirely be a matter of preference. I, personally, think you're messing up by buying a cheap, knock-off wheel. But, that's strictly my take on it.

i wouldn't go lower than 195's. but if i had a 15x8 wheels, id put some 225/45's on them.

Sounds like your going stance. I recommend 195/45R15's I run the same size on my 15x8's you can check my build to see the stretch. it isnt to crazy but good enough for fitment.

Just saw your whole build and damn dude! Mad respect for that! You just reminded me I need to paint my valve cover haha. Anyways I decided on 16x with 195/40R16. should I do this or should I go like 205/40?

I asked a question. I also said that I know its countlessly discussed. I was asking for opinions on tire size, not your opinion on me.

Yeah theres alot of idiots on this thread that like bash people, Just for future reference try and research first. Theres plenty of builds that talk about wheel sizes. but like I said 195 45 15's are the best and safest bet. you can go 175 but Its a crazy crazy stretch

Like Matt said I wouldn't get xxr wheels or the coilovers you're probably going to use.

But since you're not going for performance a 225/45/15 would be a waste of a good race tire so stretch some pos tire on there and think it's sweet.

One thing I forgot to say. I am only going cheap to basically see what I'm up against and I do have a salvaged title civic. I would hate to dump a lot of money into a car and then get into a wreck and waste thousands.

The irony of this statement...

Spending more money would make it less prone to getting in a wreck and wasting thousands. But, it's your car, and do with it as you please.

How dare you not want to spend $3000 on wheels and $2000 on coilovers for a car worth $2000! F*ck putting premium parts on a cheap daily driver for some idiot to rear end one day.

OP, 205/40 is what I've always ran on 16x8 wheels and never had any issues. 195/40 might be a little more uncomfortable.
