Default 1998 Honda Civic HX to GSR, or ITR, or LS swap

Ok, I've been around a long time, but I never ventured into motor swaps. Currently I have a 98 HX 5MT. The motor may need some work, and the trans grinds 3rd. I don't want to put money into this motor/trans, but the car itself is very clean, and everything works. I'm aware of the mounts I will need, and I def need to upgrade the brakes (Integra setup)

Before I ask the questions, lets me say I'd like to keep this 100% legal, meaning no CEL so I can pass my yearly NYS inspection. I'd prefer to find a US swap from an Integra (OBD2A 96-99). This is a daily driver and I don't mine what B-series it gets. I plan on getting everything I need (complete swap) motor, trans, ecu, axles, harness, linkage, and accessories. I'd like to have A/C and P/S. If I don't have P/S that's fine.

-I'm hearing of step up, or step down harnesses. Will I need this? I plan on keeping it OBD2A from the donor setup, but interior wiring may be different? Being that it's an HX is there anything else I would need to do as far as wiring?

-If I get a JDM setup (easier to find) what do I need to do to make it US legal? I see they all usually have a CEL on. I can't have that. I'm sorry for a basic swap question, but I've never done it before. I plan on doing it myself with some friends and I'd like to keep the costs down. This is why I want it as easy (plug and play as possible) Thank you in advance. If there is a thread on this, that I have missed, please link me to it.

The hx can take any obd2 swap very easily

However I highly suggest just replacing the transmission. The D16Y5 when paired with low rolling resistance tires can get upwards of 39mpg city driving

the y5 is a unique and effecient engine requiring little to no maintenance. once you turn your daily driver into a project car it will most likely never be your daily driver again

The hx came with smaller brakes to reduces rotational drag and it even has light weight drums in the rear.

Again I believe you are wasting money with integra brakes and a swap, a stock used civic sells for the same price as an ls swapped one down here. Sell it and just buy and integra

Best of luck either way the hx has the same engine harness as a 96-98 ex

The hx 5spd stayed obd2a all the way to 2000, no stepdown harness is required. However you might need to reconfigure some plugs, the wideband o2, the distributor plug and the ckf plug.
