Default Yonaka intermediate shaft - set ring won't allow coupling to axle

I just put a ebay Yonaka exhaust on the Pirate (type r swap EG) and it is really quiet so I am very pleased. My intermediate shaft bushing went bad so I installed the $79 yonaka intermediate shaft for hydro trans. The tranny side fit very tight but did go all the way in with rubber mallet whacks. However, the axle fits so tight over the intermediate shaft that I can't get it on with the lock ring in place. I've tried shaping three different snap rings but it just jams up every time. Twenty seven spleens on each, I counted. Anyone have a solution? (other than parting it out)

Suggestion: Post the required car data, and one of the smart guys here will probably respond.

Can't speak for the Yonaka axles but I run the hydro MT half shaft and had no issue getting it together. Try mating the axle to the half shaft first then putting the half shaft in the trans.

FSM says to put grease into the lock ring groove to help hold it center.

The other thing I did to get my axles (not yonaka but another brand with lifetime warranty) was to turn the crank via the crank pulley bolt and ratchet until it slid in. It might not be the lock ring as much as aligning up the splines just perfectly.

Turning the wheel didn't work for me the second time around like it did the first time.

That is assuming I am understanding your post right in that you can't get the axle into the transmission. If not, please disregard my post.

This. Turn, wiggle, giggle, and it should eventually pop in. It also wouldn't hurt to grease up the splines, so they can slide easily into each other.

In the process of working while tired and in the dark, I tapped the intermediate shaft into the tranny and inadvertently smooshed the end so that the snap ring wasn't sitting all the way in on top. So I cleaned up the groove and it went in, although very very tight. But the DC axle is too short for some stupid reason and it still wobbles. What the heck? I truly don't belong working on cars. I guess I will pry it off and try an old axle. Weird.

VERY weird. I'm using the same half shaft with axles from my 2001 LS donor car in a 92 CX with NO issues
