5th Gen Project Car - Oil leak
Hey Guys,
I used to own a 1989 Lude and loved it!
I have now purchased a 5th Gen 2000 Type SH with 124K Miles (200K km) on it. Leather interior as well.
Frame is ok but has lots of rust on door panels and rear wheel well sills.
I cleaned the EGR valve and ports and all my engine lights cleared.
The car has a small oil leak but my local mechanic says the engine probably needs a rebuild as it is weeping everywhere. Since my local guy isn’t a Honda expert, I was wondering if anyone knows a major source/cause of the leak? Or any area to check first on the H22A4?
I would rather not remove the engine if I don’t have to.
If I go ahead with the rebuild for seals/gaskets, what else should I replace? Liners?
Any spare parts I should pick up now while they are still available? I assume stuff like my ATTS will act up at some point.............
Thanks for any advice!

Depends where it's leaking from.
The usual spots are distributor, valve cover, cam caps, vtec sel., oil pan gasket, front main, rear main, balance shaft seal and oil cooler.
The only true way to tell is clean it right up then run it for a bit, then get on a lift. Could also use oil dye as well.
The thing is alot of mechanics misdiagnose leaks in Hondas. Mainly a leaky distributor seal that leaks down near the rear main seal. A leak in the timing belt area would be easily noticeable in that area.
Probably just need new seals top to bottom, minus the head gasket..hopefully. Might as well get the timing belt and water pump changed while that's open. Manual tensioner.
