Honda Accord DX VTEC
I have a question.
Why is there a VTEC motor in my 96 accord DX? I just figured this out while changing the timing belt that I ordered for a 2.2 non-vtec that now doesn't fit because it's 1 tooth too small. Everything I read said only the LX models were 4cyl VTEC. Now I'm sitting here with no ride to the parts store....

Maybe you can help me because I can't trust anything right now.
When I bougth the gates OEM kit for the non-vtec, it came with a 112 tooth belt. 1 tooth short of stock. So, I looked up the VIN (of course on wikipedia) which was the first site that came up. It said the VIN code CD5 was a VTEC. Other posts on forums also said that 113 teeth was for a VTEC engine. However when I called autozone (which is now where I had to get a duralast belt until another gates can be delivered) they said the non-vtec takes a 113 tooth and the VTEC takes a 112. However, when ordering a complete kit for a non-vtec the kit comes with a 112 tooth belt. I just want to know what is going on here. Can I request my $ back from gates or am I the fool?

Normally a vtec engine will have vtec stamped on the valve cover.
What you can do is look at the engine block and see what the engine stamp is. Then look at the head and see what it is stamped. Then report back here.
The CD5 simply tells you what the chassis is.
If your engine is really vtec it will have a vtec solenoid sitting on the side of it which is shown in part 9 here

The timing belt for a non-VTEC has 113 teeth. So, your engine is probably a non-VTEC, and not a VTEC swap.
The Gates timing belt for a VTEC suppose to have 112 teeth; you were sent the wrong part.
