New transmission recomendation

New transmission recomendation
I have a 5 speed in my 95 dx hatch. It's getting old now and starting to make noises. it's served me well. should i get an ex/si tranny or fix this old dog? how difficult is it to rebuild a tranny? Thanks.

upgrading the tranny on a 100hp motor isnt the best of ideas, but if you can find it cheap, go for it.....IMO, i'd just save up some $$ or take a loan out the bank and swap in a DOHC motor/tranny.....it's up to you dude, but if you're strapped for cash, just replace it

My only problem with the ex/si tranny is finding one near me so I don't end up paying shipping. how much should i pay for one?

Gas mileage will get better also.
again, please feel free to correct my misguided logic here. i know you are quite knowledgeable with d-series trannies and the gearing problems that make "sohc" a four letter word.

please correct my ignorance, but i would think the longer gears of the dx tranny would be better for gas milage since rpm's would keep a bit lower?

In a low rpm/HIGH torque V8 world you would be right. But letting a puny D15B7 "sing" it's way to is peak VE is the best way to get higher MPG.

You should be able to pick up a 92-95 EX/Si trans cheap at a local salvage yard. This is the better way to go because of the better gearing.
