Default trouble with 91 crx starting.

So I picked up a Honda 91 crx ef as a daily driver. If I turn the key to the on position and let everything "boot up" and then try and start it the starter turns over very slow and then stops. If I go straight from the off position to the starter 8 out of 10 times it will start right up (But still seams to be turning over very slow) I took the battery in and had it tested and they (autozone) said it was good but only had a 50% charge. So I brought the car in and had the alternator tested and they said it was going bad. I replaced the alternator this morning with a brand new one and let the car run for probably a good 20min (mostly idle with maybe 3min worth of driving). Shut the car off and Tried to start it back up... same problem. When I take the core back in I'm going to have them retest everything. But any other ideas?

Sorry for the long winded story.

if the car cranks .. meaning its not just doing nothing

then the problem can still be with the battery even though it passes the AutoZone test.

I have had a couple batteries that just won't fully charge.. and just recently replaced one... it will lose charge fast and when you do charge it enough to start the car its just not going to work well.

One thing you can look for is ground straps .. make sure the one at the radiator is there and in good condition.

also battery cables can deteriorate within the plastic shielding .. they can look ok and test ok but they can rot inside and you have to replace them..

what else hmm could be a starter put probably not

hope that helps .. actually this post is old ... hope you found the problem
