Default From "fun" car to Honda Challenge competitor "build".

I really wanted to start this during the "build" over the winter, but time and energy wasn't really there for it. I wanted to base it off of the track car to race car portion of the car's life, but, at this point, I'll share a little bit of the car's history as well. So, kind of giving a timeline for now and filling in the blanks as I go along.

2007, crap mobile photo.

2010, ITR Expo and WMHM.

2011, ITR Expo.

2012, Wangfest.

2013, NSXpo.

2014, ITR Expo14.5.

2015, NASA race at Autobahn.

Heck, I'd have to look at the title to see when I actually purchased this car. But, I'm guessing that I bought it in 2005 for basically a steal because it had the dent and the B16 did not run. I put a new igniter in it and he fired right up. The car received the name Hank for whatever reason and I just drove it on nice days/weekends.

I drove it for awhile, did minor changes to it. But, in 2007-2008ish, I decided that I was going to tear the car apart and do "big things". Well, those "big things" turned into a social life and the car wasn't included. haha. So, fast forward to 2009, we are expecting our first kid, A/C unit goes out on the house, and I'm already signed up for my first track event. There wasn't much money left to go towards the hatch, so I put tires, pads, and brake fluid on the daily sedan and tracked it.

I bit the track bug hard after that, I did an autocross as well, but it didn't have the bite like the track did. So, now it was either, get Hank back together or sell it! Selling it wasn't an option, so buckled down and got things sorted for 2010. Myself and a couple buddies, took the car from stripped interior, rolling shell to a car ready to hit the track in like 7 or 8 Sundays. I was working so much that the only day I had "open" was Sundays and we made due!

I had already signed up for ITR Expo10 at Autobahn, but with Putnam close, I wanted to do a shakedown. If I remember right, I got it done one Sunday, the next Sunday I autocrossed, the following Sunday I went to Putnam, and one week off then to Expo. haha.

Here is a video from the BMW event at Putnam. First time in the car, first time at Putnam, and for some reason I got put in intermediate!

Thanks. Plan now is to keep improving myself and the car. While doing so, keep racing as much as possible.

Once the car hit the track, it just kept improving, as well as myself. Every season would net tire changes with brake compound changes as well. Nothing changed within the drivetrain until this season.

The motor was just a bolt on B16 with a stock P30. The trans had to get pieced together, so it ended up being LS gearing with a 4.4fd and an ITR LSD.

For this season, we put in ITR cams and put in the proper gearing with a MFactory clutch diff.

I'll fast forward to over this past winter or the "meat" of this content.

I wanted to keep the dash looking pretty stock, but while removing as much weight as possible.

I wanted to do a hood vent set up, DIY style. So, I bought a Jeep A/C shade, trimmed it, and measure it up. It took a bit of bending around the edges to get it to seat close to true. I used some marine epoxy to help bond it to the hood.

Since we're going racing, I wanted to get some mesh in the front cover for all the debris.

Original bumper tab idea, changed it to something else. I'll have to see if I have pictures of that.

A few people told me about the Integra racks having a "better ratio", so I went all in and de-powered one.

Not enough thorough research though, we have the motor and trans in and the rack doesn't want to sit right.. There are different brackets on the subframe, luckily a buddy had an Integra subframe.

Once everything was buttoned up, I had to go break the diff in, in the snow on basically slicks. haha.

I love this car. I remember chatting at ITR Expo 10 and your car looked like the paint was still wet. You were passing my CRX like it was backing up.

Well put together.

Yeah, that was a fun event. The paint was only fresh on the front bumper cover. haha. Other than that, it is the original paint.

Thanks!

For the under hood portion of the hood duct, I used a thin piece of aluminum aka a For Sale sign. haha.

I hacked the dash up to make it as light as possible while also retaining an OE look.

I don't have a picture of the "new" set up inside of the cover, but as I said before, I had to bail on the dzus set up because of fitment issues. I just used a thin aluminum stock, drilled, bent, and used a spring u-nut as the fastener for the bolt.

Again, I used a for sale sign and make a little shield for the transponder when I installed it. Luckily, the interior fuse box has optional blocks to use as power sources, so that's what I ran the transponder to.

it's in the mail.

on the build. Is that cage overkill, or is that built to class specs? it almost seems a bit much in the door area.

I would think you would maybe want a bit overkill in the door area when you picture another car driving through your drivers door?

build looking good.

I wouldn't say that it is overkill, really, but I'd rather have overkill than minimal in the safety department.

There was a lot of thought(redstandardhatch; posted above) that went into it, ran by me, and we went with it. The cage is 100% legal and to the NASA specs; already been through annual tech and 2 race weekends. haha.

Instead of having to go by sound or looking down at the OE tach, I installed this iShift light.

Installing the fire system, plus the kill switch, etc. This is what a few night looked like.

Random pictures.

At ProFunction getting tuned.

At competition school/first race weekend out at Gateway outside of St. Louis.

epic build man and that valve cover is sick!

I was pretty burnt out on working on my EF Si because of the 3 motor swaps I've done in the past month but this is getting me fired back up to keep at it.
