so recently i replaced my trans, due to reverse going out. and with this semi new one im having a difficult time getting it into first gear. it goes in i can drive and all that good stuff but it just doesnt seem right. so my question is can i adjust the cables?

Yes you can adjust the shift cables if there is an issue with it

 

Adjust the cables from the console, if needed.

You need to be more specific as to when a shifting problem occurs, an alignment problem with the cable is quite rare. A cable way out of adjustment will normally produce a lot of problems.
