What should Todd do now that his motor is shot....
What should Todd Reid do..? He's got some options. I say LS/VTEC, but I know there are more knowlegeable people out there about these dinky motors, so they might have a better clue...
And we all know Todd, he'll probably dig up the motor at a junkyard, heh

I say LS/VTEC as well
speaking with Steve in depth about this its clear that the GS-R crank is nearly the same once balanced out and the LS makes torque a little earlier
already have the bottom end if his piston didnt self destruct and score the cylinder walls.......
hmmm 84mm LS = B20

or install my original D15B7 motor and run in H5 and pray for rain????
ha ha ha
I will know in a few weeks how bad it is. i think its bad; probably broke off a valve in the number 3 cylinder at 8500 rpm
gotta try to fix my Lotus Ford Kent motor before Turkey bowl first, though. damn camshaft broke in it. what the hell is wrong with me lately????

I voted for rebuilding what you have, because I know you well enough to know that the expensive VTECs ain't gonna happen. Not on your "cheap" racecar. Actually, the d15b7 is a good idea....
Matt
It's hard to say without knowing the extent of the damage. If it's just the head, I'd replace it with a B16 head. If the bottomend is damaged, then the situation gets more complicated.

The D15 is a good, stout motor. Nearly indestructible. Though once Todd gets through with it, it'll probably be self destructing at 8000 rpms just like his old one

Two options I don't see. One is the B20/VTEC. The other, which is my favorite, is "crash the **** out of his truck." Because that way you can't afford to build a b-series, and you are forced to put the D15 back in. Which means you, me, and the rest of H5 can play at LMS next year.
Seriously...something fast. H1 will be entertaining as hell in 2003.

Better go ahead and get some horsepower Todd. I think you're gonna need it.

I vote for H5.
That way, Shultz could finally spend some time racing with Reid

Hey, while I'm at it, I vote for H5 as well. It'll make you all that much more appreciative of your days in H1 when the car didn't feel like 2 plug wires were off. And it'll give you time to save $$ to build the H1 ubermotor!

I can't believe todd actually drove that baby to the ground. I think that's just an excuse for wife to build an *** kicking motor like I told you before
Anyway, I opt for b20/vtec (if the ls block is gone for sure). 2.0 is always better than 1.8
Jeff-

expect to see me and the POS Motorsports craphatch at the VIR comp sch00l early next year

I have a extra complete LS head and should have a piston or two if you need them. Just trying to help out another H1 person. Let me know.
todd, since you complained about your car not having enough "lungs up top" to hang with the VTEC cars, I think the answer is pretty obvious.
Todd,
I know you said you wouldnt go VTEC before cuz of other racing classes you participate in would put you in a difficult class. Are you still planning on running those other classes?? or will you be a ECHC ***** like the rest of us??
Pete
Who is having fun w/ stand alone tuning.

If I stay with the LS motor (no vtec head) then I can run ST-1 with the EMRA group (as I did in 2000 and 2001). This year I planned on running only two EMRA events, but did not make either of them due to scheduling/family problems....
If I put a VTEC motor in, I will be in ST-GT.
I will not decide what to do until I see the extent of the damage. I won't be pulling the head for at least 3 to 4 weeks; I am desperately trying to fix my Super Seven for the Turkey Bowl (end of the month at Summit Pt). After that, I will tear into the Honda.
thanx for the ideas and support!
