Default 89 CRX Backseat Conversion

I'm looking to put in a backseat in my crx. Where can I buy a conversion kit? Or can I use a backseat out of anther EF hatchback and fabricate it in? Comments appreciated. It's my daily drive and I have a kid still carseat age.

Don't put your kid in the back of a crx.

no safe way to do that I know of without fabrication.

I carry my four year old up front, in a booster now, but when she was smaller i went ahead and put in a seatbelt in the extra spots for a kids car seat.

Lol I don't wanna part with the car because they're so rare. Sometimes I have to travel with my son so I'm trying to find the safest way to do that.

You're able to install a lap belt for the passenger seat. There is a plug you screw out on the floor board just behind the seat up near the door. You get the middle belt from the back seat of another civic like at the yard and bolt it in. That would be the safest and most legal way in the CRX to have a child. No air bags to so it can be done.(of course check your local laws) I believe there is another tether attachment location in the trunk somewhere directly behind the passenger seat to anchor in the top of the car seat for better support. Could be right behind the cargo pull down to access the truck. I've done the backseat conversion before and really liked it but you have to weld in the seat belts. I'm not going to trust a modification like that for my kids. Plus the cost to do so to make it a clean install is somewhere around $400-$500 if your lucky to find a clean complete rear seat conversion without reupholstering.

Good luck to you!

If you have an owners manual it will show you how to install the belt. I really loved my rex but decided to get a 91 Civic Si to be able to have that rear seat, and am really pleased with how similar the two cars are.

let us know how it goes!

I have found no tether attachment point in the back. I bought a rear seatbelt set out of a 96-00 civic and used that for a child car seat in the front seat. my daughter LOVES riding in the "little red car."

The rear seat conversion is cool, but as others have said don't put your kids back there. You have to drop the gas tank to do the belts properly, and then it's still completely illegal in the US. Front passenger seat, or another car. I moved on to a GTI that ticks all the boxes for me.

When my kid was on the way we bought a Trailblazer SS, not a bad baby hauler 400HP/400TQ. I would never put my 3 year old in the CRX.

I'd have to agree with this. Even though I don't have any kids, I usually feel bad even driving friends around in my flatback. Especially with all these awful drivers in their Escalades, GMCs, etc.
